Best Pushbuttons for "Admin" Actions?
« on: February 27, 2017, 01:28:30 pm »
Hi,

I built my cabinet using the Suzo Happ pushbutton bundle set they sell on Amazon.  Now I'd like to add some smaller buttons for "admin" stuff - volume up/down, game saves, etc.  Does anyone have a favorite?  I'm not looking for something backlit, just a button that's similar to the standard pushbutton (same type of micro-switch, same depth for control panel install), just something smaller in diameter (or even rectangular).

Thanks!
Brian

What are you using for an encoder?  Alot of them have "shift" keys where you can use the same button for different tasks.

I used normal sized buttons for my admin, but I've always liked the little buttons they use on the Surface Tension machines. Not sure where they get them from though: http://www.surface-tension.net/external/byoac/st4_panel.jpg

i'd be interested in some good answers on this subject, as in the past i used the ones like in the pic below.  bad idea.. they suck, and eventually hurt your fingers!  (in my opinion they would only be good for something where u very rarely have to press it).

I really like these  low-profile black-rimmed buttons (Rick is the only vendor I've found that stocks these ) with inkjet printed inserts on Avery 18665 or 8665 labels.

The ring between the nut and bezel is removable.

There are many vendors that carry translucent-rimmed or "sawed-off volcano" LED buttons.

I usualy get 12v LEDs and power them with 5v -- not as bright and much longer lasting.  ;D
PROTIP: Get white LEDs for yellow buttons -- yellow LED + yellow diffuser = muddy orange. :puke

If you're looking for a smaller diameter non-LED button, there are some options but these won't mount without routing a pocket on the back of a 3/4" panel.  IIRC Paradise Arcade Shop and/or Focus Attack carry these.

Seimitsu PS-14-GN-C -- 24mm convex, threaded, clear cover

Sanwa OBSN-24 -- 24mm convex, threaded

Seimitsu PS-14-DN -- 20mm convex, threaded

Sanwa SDM-20 -- 20mm concave, locking tabs

Sanwa SDM-18 -- 18mm concave, locking tabs

Divemaster has these but they're intended for a service panel mounted behind your coin door.

I use 1 of these as a "shift" button.... they do kinda suck. But they are small and easily hide-able and the stiffness makes it less prone to accidental pressing(mounted behind volume knob).

I use Sanwa 24 since I use 30 size version for play my panel looks quite nice with all buttons the same colour and style.
