Call to Mirror MAME Cab Owners! Video Solutions?
« on: February 15, 2017, 09:42:46 am »
So, I haven't updated/added to the Mirror Cab FAQ (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,111042.0.html) in awhile and I feel like I'd like to - especially since I'm working on my cab.  I've seen a few random discussions on options, but I'd like to get more specifics down.  So, a few questions:
1. What is your video solution?  Yoke flipping a CRT is "easy" and works on all CRTs, so this is more for LCD users.  If your monitor/tv has a flip option, what model is it and what are your thoughts/opinions?
2. Are you using a scaler type solution to flip your image?  If so, which one?  Any latency issues?
3. If you don't have a 'hardware' solution and are using software specifically because it can flip images, what software are you using?  MAME is an obvious one, but what front ends?  Support apps?
4. Have you hit any other difficulties with your cab and setup outside just the primary 'getting the image to mirror'?  Would love to hear if so.

Thanks for the additional information!  Once I get some additional info, I'll add more details to the FAQ and hopefully help people a bit more in our unique situation!

most games that are mirrored are a result of actually using a mirror. so they flip the yoke on the CRT to make it the right way around when the player views the mirror. the video image coming out of the game is regular unflipped video.

you'd need to mirror the LCD somehow if you where to replace the CRT and wished to still retain the mirror. like so:
