ManxTT DX Mitsubishi monitor scan rate?
« on: February 01, 2017, 12:45:44 am »
I recently purchased a SEGA ManxTT DX cabinet and I'm trying to connect my PC (well, really a Mac) to the monitor.  The cabinet monitor is the Mitsubishi type and it accepts 4 BNC-style connectors (RGB+sync).  My problem is that since I'm using a DVI to BNC cable, my computer doesn't recognize that it's connected to anything and defaults to 800x600@60Hz.  This produces a flickering image but obviously not a usable picture.  I have software that can adjust resolutions and has some really advanced settings (like pixel clock, front+rear porch, etc.) but I don't know what the monitor's native resolution and scan rate are.  Is the original cabinet set to output 640i or some other custom scan rate?  Thanks.

ManxTT is a 25kHz scan rate medium resolution (496x384) game.

Thanks for the resolution.  ...but 25kHz???  That sounds more like a sound frequency than a scan rate.  Maybe I'm misunderstanding this but surely the screen doesn't refresh 25 thousand times per second.

From The Monitor FAQ:
What is the resolution of my monitor?
Monitors are classified by their horizontal bandwidth and number of visible lines. This effectively describes their resolution. You can roughly estimate their vertical refresh rate (frames per second) by dividing the horizontal bandwidth by the number of visible lines. For a standard resolution monitor this would be 15750 / 240 =~ 65 Hz.
resolutionhorizontal bandwidth# lines# colorscomparable
standard15.75 kHz240unlimitedCGA or NTSC TV
extended16.5 kHz288unlimitedCGA or PAL TV
medium25 kHz380unlimitedEGA
high31.5 kHz450unlimitedVGA
Note that we are talking about CRT monitors only. If your monitor is advertised as LCD, TFT, plasma or projection it cannot be classified using the table above.
