Hi guys, glad to see some familiar faces from when I was last on here.

Figured I'd share some ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- as well. Moved from Northern California to the Southern Part of France called Nice, had to leave a lot behind in my workshop as space is a commodity here. Found an old hole in the wall store turned garage near my house to turn into a workshop. Has been about 5 months since I got to cut some wood and well, idle hands and all.

I plan on setting up a CNC and a bunch of woodworking tools to make some Arcade machines again, maybe sell some to the Frenchies here. Hipster crap has gone big recently in the cities. Mainly just to keep myself busy building a Man cave though.

It is a small space that is very old, but I can make it work :D

So what are you going to do about the power situation?  It's my understanding that wiring in old structures in Europe is.... questionable at best.  Also are you going to run stuff through adaptors or are you going full EU/PAL on us?

I have electrical guys coming out to do the wiring next week. Probably going to charge me a butt load, but they said no problem as that spot had electricity that was removed within the decade.

I have some smaller stuff going to be ran through adapters that I brought with me for some of the cordless stuff, but am buying all new tools as I sold all the larger ones before leaving the states.

I think that was the hardest part of the move, ---fudgesicle--- the neighbors, I wanted to bring my table saw and drill press.

Now you can go SCART with out having to open a CRT.

Just spent a few HR looking at RGB converting some CRT's to start last night.

For now I'll just be making Bartops and some maybe unique shaped arcades, I never got into restoration or using original hardware. Started off jamming laptops into jigsaw cut bartops http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,120067.0.html and will probably use raspi or the pandora game boards.

Build as you like but SCART opens up some opertunitea worth considering.

SCART makes lots of Eurapion CRT tv's RGB ready, just like arcad monitors. With very little work your should be able to use a pandora box Vea SCART as they have an RGB out. Lots of guys on BYOAC use VGA to SCART cable in there builds with mame. You may be able to do the Rpi as well Vea one of the hats that have RGB out. You wouldn't be the first to use a small CRT in a bar top and it should beclose to an acteral arcade monitor.

The refresh rate is going to be crap on scart though.  No such thing as a perfect format before svga came along.

It doesn't seem to have a negative effect on the frame rate. In fact it should be as fast as the TV can sports.

Driving a TV directly has some advantages. The quality is superior to composite or S-video, and as the video card's TV encoder is completely bypassed, custom resolutions and refresh rates can be programmed. On the down side, this method can require some experimentation to get right.

(14.76 MHz for PAL, 13.34 MHz for NTSC.)

PAL is 25fps and NTSC is 30fps.   Most game consoles originate from japan, a ntsc region.  That means that games are often shoddily ported to pal and since it has a lower fps, either the game will run slower or 5 fps are cut internally, often resulting in a more jerky picture.  In an arcade situation it matters less, but it still probably matters with some games.

Sounds fun.

My Dad is big into the local Elks and he is always trying to get younger members. I been telling him to fill the bar with old pinball tables and a select few arcade games. I also told him to fill the old large, now empty pool room with new tables, ski ball, air hockey, a projector with an Xbox one/ PS4. If they want younger members, then they need to do and have things young people would want to do. I think the average age is over 70.

Third weekend in a row in the coast, I don't know how you flyover country people manage.

Anyway, after 3 years of wondering and hoping, I can joyfully confirm that a pinball machine and dolly fit in a Scion xB.

It is actually very fun and very fast.  I bought this years ago, in horrible shape, and turd polished it to respectability.  It does suffer from lack of a goal during multiball, but getting multiball going is difficult.  I'll contemplate adding the "mission" roms...
