Current 60 in 1 Jamma boards?
« on: January 07, 2017, 02:40:03 pm »
I want to build a Pac-man table for a friend of mine as a birthday gift. Just a simple 8 way joystick and a few buttons to function.

Has anyone recent information on the current 60 in 1 boards?  I see there was an old thread going back to 2008 or so and was wondering if there was any new information. Generally speaking how long to the take to "boot up" before being ready to function?

Thanks! Gary

about 2 minutes. the fewer games you have enabled, the faster it starts.

2 minutes?! wow!

I'm assuming that you can shut down games in software?

Hey Malenko, as i've never used a 60 in 1, i have a question, as well.  If you disable all the games except for one, does it automatically "boot" into the one?

Maybe "more than 1 but less than 2" is a better answer.  If you pick a game to play, and the game is over it shoots you back to the menu.

Its been forever since I had one, but I am pretty sure that if you only have 1 game enabled, it boots up right to the enabled game almost instantly.

My humble efforts to build my friend a machine to play.

Going to replace the T-molding with yellow stuff when it comes in.

Looks good.  I'd mirror the buttons so that one could play it left or right handed.

Normally I'd consider it but it was built for my friends use alone.

Since this is a review section I'm going to post a review of the 60 in 1 board later today.

Initial thoughts.

1) The instructions are horrible and vague.

2) Boot time is long if all games are enabled, reducing the game list speeds up the process. I'll experiment later today and post results.

3) Menu music can be disabled but as soon as you insert a credit it starts. I had problems getting free play to work in an acceptable fashion so disabled it.

4) Demo sounds are enabled but I have not noted any playing when the games cycle through in demo mode.

5) Sound is uneven. Currently have sound level set for 30% based on demo music, some games are ok at this level others are so loud the speaker is distorted.

More later..

Follow up--

1) With a number of games disabled boot time is notably faster.

2) I disabled all games save one and boot time was instantaneous and directly into the game chosen.

3) Sound is still currently an issue. I have the volume set at 20 and some games are still loud. Might put a control panel mounted volume knob in the machine in the future.

Final product- Yellow trim installed along with a zippy joystick locked into 4 way mode. Lights wash out the trim in the picture a bit but it looks great in person.

Now if we can just sneak it over his house when he isn't home...

Well that was the initial plan till a "casino game" popped up on Craigslist. In the interest of time that is what I ended up going with. It actually works out as his wife wants him standing to build up strength in a bum knee.

It saved me a little time but not much in the way of parts. I had intended to rotate the CGA monitor but could not do so without cutting up the chassis and even then it would have been dicey. Since the 60 in 1 supported VGA output I went with a LCD panel I had floating around the workshop.

Will sell of the monitor and board to recoup some funds, but I'm not expecting much. The monitor is a nice little unit and would be great for a cocktail table... just like the Atrai unit I picked up this weekend.

Thank you! My first arcade conversion in a way... not counting my NFL Blitz JAMMA/MAME machine which I'm still tinkering with.

I was just out in the workshop checking things and with 19 games enabled boot time is 25 seconds from the moment the power switch is flipped.

Just another follow up- If you are in free play mode you can totally kill the menu music!

With "music disabled", a recap.

Free play mode = no music
No free play mode = music comes on as soon as a coin is dropped in

Also if you are in free play mode the board will ignore any coin drops which is a bit of a bummer after I spent so much time fixing them.

One thing I don't like about the 60 in 1 is some colors are washed out on some games. Others look normal.

Mr.Do is washed out and looks poor compared to the original PCB or my MAME machine which looks identical to the OEM Mr. Do.
