For the ArcadeVGA gurus out there... I have an AVGA 3000 on a Win10 box and used the arcaderes app to generate all the MAME.ini files. I'm running 720x480 on the arcade monitor. Seems to work fairly well...However, I'd love to get rid of black space on the screen.
If I set the AVRes app to 'use artwork'..using Pacman as an example...it sets all the games to 720x480 and I get this nice bezel in full view all around this miniature game screen, with a nice black border around the entire outside of the bezel. Thus I end up with a 25" monitor that is 80% bezel and blackness...with this smaller-than-ipadscreen sized game in the middle.
If I set AVRes to NOT use artwork, it sets the resolution up to the next proportional size...but what I seem to get is sort of a cropped gamescreen...which I can turn the artwork on manually in that specific game....but the game itself is either cutoff on the top on the screen, or on the bottom, or both...depending on which bezel you choose. I'm not worried if the bezel gets cropped... but with this setting it seems to just crop *everything*. While it meets my goal of not having any black space, it doesn't make Pacman too much fun if you can't see your score, or the bottom of the maze.
Anyone go through a similar config? How did you work around it? I could have sworn I had this working at some point across the years. I attached a couple pics of the two variations I've been staring at for longer thatn I care to admit
..I'm using the latest drivers, mame 180, mameui180, etc...
