Will GM benefit my setup?
« on: January 01, 2017, 06:03:44 pm »
Hi guys. I have a mame cab that currently has mame 148 on win 7, and I'm  looking into updating to 181 and possibly trying Groovymame. I've been out of the loop for a few years on the mame side of things so bear with me.
The monitor I use is NEC MultiSync 4:3 21.3 inch monitor that has a beautiful picture; that being said I cannot fit a CRT in my cab as it was built for flatscreen monitors. So CRT is definite no go. I know that GM is made for them but....

What I'm looking to do is reduce input lag, especially for Galaga '88 and getting smoother scrolling. So even though I'm running LCD can I benefit from GM or should I just upgrade to vanilla mame? If so what would be the best settings as far as the ini settings?

Hi Trnzaddict,

GM can certainly reduce input lag with an LCD. The easiest way if you're already on 7 is to use the d3d9ex build with stock config.

You can also use the fancy features like frame_delay but this will cause tearing on an LCD, unless you have a somewhat powerful gpu and some luck.
Important note: posts reporting GM issues without a log will be IGNORED.
Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead of pasting it.
