Struggling to Get MaLa to let me direct it to my roms folder
« on: December 04, 2016, 10:41:51 pm »
Seems like this should be a very simple and basic task but I'm in the Options setup pop up box after running a new install and it lets me point it to the correct folder for the MAME executable folder but when I click on the "..." to direct it to my roms it doesn't allow me to do so.  It just looks like an empty folder that only gives me the ability to click "Open" which does nothing or just hit "Cancel".  Yet the folder is loaded with unzipped roms as I have triple checked and always visiable expect when I try to link MaLa to the folder.  Thanks in advance for helping with what appears to be a stupid question.

Welcome board, NaptownChief.   ;D

MaLa is looking for an XML file (lower right in your first screenshot), not the ZIP files in your second screenshot.

MAME's XML format changed in version 0.162 -- if you're using that version or newer, check out the workaround here.

Welcome board

haha, you called him a piece of wood.
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

Thanks. Forums like this is what gave me the confidence to build my cabinet several years ago. For a non techie like me do you think it would be wise to just use an older version?

It would be easier if you don't have to do the XML workaround, however it might be worth the effort to use a newer version if MAME has added a feature or game that you can't live without.

Check out the "What's New" files here.

Thanks...I finally got it working with .179.  Now I am just fighting with getting a custom MaLa layout working.  Baby steps.

New issue.  When I went into the MaLa options/configuration and then selected "Game Collection Options"  and then selected "Only Games Found In Roms folder" all the games no longer show up.  If I toggle over to the "Games Most Played" and it will show the 6 to 10 games I did previously play but none other than those.  I went back and reversed that change and still not there.  Refreshed the game list and still nothing.  Went into MAME and ran an audit and refresh.  Still nothing.  Thoughts?  Thanks

I started over from scratch and did the XML fix you posted and that worked.  Thanks a bunch
