I am doing nothing with "this" if you are referring to my archiving of information I gather from this forum.
I am not writing any book(s).
I am not publishing any of the information I find on these forums (I am just keeping the information for my own use).
I am just giving you a 'play by play' of what I read and enjoy on this forum up until I complete my arcade cabinet(s)
and sharing with you what parts of the forum I read and enjoy and learn from every day.

Alrighty then, seems you've found interest in my projects, let me know if you need any further assistance.  Glad to help.

  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Updated Tuesday  4/18/17

I'm still moving along with Martijn's Marvel vs Capcom build thread.  I'm already on page 3 of 6 of his build!!
Time flies when you are on a GREAT build project thread!!!

I learned a lot by reviewing his build today:

1.  I learned this new process called "Jtagging".  Martijn is Jtagging his Xbox 360 which is some way of modifying the hardware and software to play MAME on it. I never
heard of this before.

2.   Also he is using some new types of controllers and modding them to play with the Xbox. (Madcat Fighter Pads)

3.  One member wrote that Martijn's build thread has inspired him to get going on his own cabinet build.  I think this is the same reason why I enjoy reading
different member's project build threads. I know that I am internalizing everyone's steps and reading each post gets me more and more motivated. The same phenomenom
happened with my home theater and the AVSForum.

4.  Martijn showed a great step by step and detail of his display plexiglass and bezel installation.

5.  Also he did a kickass job on an input/output panel as well as adding his 2.1 Speaker system remote control to the face of the input/output panel!!!!

6. Martijn detailed very well how he installed his cathode ray tube marquee lights and installed reflective foil material behind it.  He added many more cathode ray tube
lights compared to his first cabinet because he stated that his first cabinet's marquee was not bright enough for his own tastes.

Here is the list of new files I created today.

Yeah, I read on one of his pages on this 2nd build of his that he sold his first cabinet, so, I'm not surprised if he ended up selling this one too.  At this point
that I am on his 2nd build (page 5 of 6) he has not mentioned that he sold this one yet.

28 new categories.

Here is a recap of what I learned today and what I covered regarding Martijn's Marvel vs Capcom build:

1.   Martijn installed a RJ45 Network connection input/output port on his cabinet and installed in the rear of the cabinet because of some wireless signal issues he  was having in his Xbox 360. I've never seen this before. Pretty good idea.

2.  Martijn installed "Fanmates". A Tool that controls the fans that he installed based on the temperature it reads in the cabinet.

3.  He also discussed what temperature the cabinet is and what his target temperature is.

4.  Martijn installed his Xbox 360 into the cabinet using the "separate everything" way.  He then had to install rubber feet onto the hard drive because the hard drive was vibrating the cabinet too much.

5.  Martijn shared the photos of his completed cabinet. It came out great as expected.

6.  Martijn shared photos of his "cabinet finished" party with friends.  I agree that a party to be held when someone finishes their cabinet. What a great idea to get together with friends and have some fun!!!

7.   Martijn had to install a new "pot" control for his remote control on his 2.1 speaker system because it was having issues.

8.   Some members were having issue with the height that he installed his JLF Joysticks.  I believe Martijn said that he was happy with the height.

9.  Martijn showed how he installed his LPT connection which was connected to his PCB (Don't ask me what any of this stuff really functions as...  I own up to it......I'm clueless.... :dizzy:)

Here is a list of every file category that was modified today (which includes the list of new categories created):

I concur. It makes me sad as well.  For someone to sell something after putting that much work into it and blood, sweat and tears into it.  Especially after posting your journey in a diary that you can look back on here on arcadecontrols.com.  I wouldn't be able to go to my build thread like he posted without sadness knowing that I don't own it to still enjoy it.

I finished Martijn's Marvel vs Capcom build thread.  Even though he sold it, I didn't read in his build thread that he did (did I miss it somewhere?).

I started reading a new build thread!

ZexisStryfe built a "Vewlix" style cabinet which is an asian market type of full upright cabinet that I never heard of before. Cool!!

Here are some things I learned today:

1.  I forgot that there are "restrictor plates" that you put on the control panel on top of your u360's to give them "octogonal" control of the joystick, otherwise te joystick "throw space" is too wide.

2.  A lot of guys upgrade their Ultrimarc 360 "springs" to better ones.

3.  I knew that a lot of members upgraded their Ultrimarc 360 shafts to "Long shafts", and they talked about that in ZexisStryfe's build.

4.  There are apparently extra "boxes" or something to add to your pinball flipper buttons to give them that "clunk" tactile feel (are was he talking about "solenoid" buttons?)

5.  I added a new game and category that talked about how the game Arkanoid plays great using a Spinner.

6. There was some debate over whether Servostiks are better than u360 for fighting games.  ZexisStryfe, I believe wants this cabinet for mainly fighting games but for classic games as well. He provide the list of console systems that he wants the emulators to play.

Overall I got about 6 hours of work done today.

  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Friday - TGIF!
4/21/17

I got a lot of research done today.
26 new files/categories of expanded knowledge added to the mix (see list below)

I'm thoroughly enjoying the ride that ZexisStryfe has shared with us.
Love those buttons that he purchased from ParadiseArcadeShop with the translucent bodies
and the fact that he brought something like 26 RGB LED lights that will light those ---smurfin--- things up!!
He mistakenly clipped his SATA hard drive port which damaged his HD rendering it useless. That must have sucked.
ZexisStryfe brought all different kinds of colored edge buttons to differentiate the Player 1 and 2 buttons etc from the rest of the CP.
I also added a new file dedicated to where he purchased all of his buttons - ParadiseArcadeShop.
He purchased a separate Button Wrench from them as well. I didn't even know there was such a tool until today.   :tool:
There was talk by one member who responded that he lubed up his Ultimarc 360s to make them less sluggish. Nice!

Member dkersten posted an awesome response where he discussed all that he did with his u360 as well as a complete breakdown of what the difference was
between the 360 joysticks, J Sticks, JLWs, and ServoSticks!!!  I learned a ton just from his post alone!!! Thanks dkersten!!

I had already had a "restrictor plate" MS Word doc that I created a while ago, but that item was discussed a lot in ZexisStryfe's thread.
I honestly forgot there was such a thing that existed.  Just when you thought you knew it all.. (ie even though there is a TON of redundancy between all of the different
project build threads on this forum, you still need to embrace it because there is just too much information to remember).

All different aspects of joysticks were discussed such as the "Center Up" factor, the "Resistance as you push them" factor, "Mapping" virtually vs physcially.

ZexisStryfe shared a photo of a few nice packaged "kits" that he brought which consisted of forstner bits, drill bits etc. He also brought an exacto knife, and a glue gun that he
showed photos of.

Here is a list of the files I created and added today:

Have a great weekend. Enjoy your arcade playing on your cabinets. I have Hyperspin setup on a 60" configured to play with my Xbox 360 controller. I hope to have time to have some fun with it, but between working around the house and watching a movie in my home theater and taking my mother out to dinner for her birthday, I don't know how much time I will have. LMAO!!

Today, I read through 80sarcadegames' build thread, Topic: My "Taking my sweet time to build it" Multi-cade side art arcade cabinet build!  (Read 2178 times).

In the latest update, he listed 25 documents he had updated while reading the forum.

I was impressed at how recursive and meta a forum thread about reading forum threads was, so I decided to comment in the thread with a comment about how unusual it is to see a build thread about reading build threads.  :)

Man... cheesesteaks are gooood.
Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin to slit throats.

LMAO!  Yes, I know it is very unusual for a member to post the details of his simple research, but this is the only way I can keep my sanity as I can't work on the physical aspects
of building my arcade cabinet now and this is the only way to keep my sanity because of my intense desire to "dive into" this hobby.

  • If you don't try, you have no chance at innovation
Your setting yourself up to be greatly critiqued on your build man.  If your doing all of this research, you better not build a POS.

Your setting the bar high given that you've dissected a few of the quality builds on the forum.  Looking forward to whatever it is your planning to build.

rablack97, Thanks for your enthusiasm for my build. You inspire me to work harder to make it better when I know that people like you are looking forward to whatever
outcome I produce!

Oh, I own up to it now that my build is not going to be great by any means.

I've already stated that my build is going to be a standard that is way below others because of my lack of skill, creativity, knowledge, focus,
and discipline.

As far as my dissecting other members build, I hope you don't interpret my notes as anything negative about anyone's particular arcade cabinet build.

I don't think I've posted anything that conveyed that I was judging or expressing any negativity towards other people's builds nor do I plan to in the future with
this thread.

I am the last person on this forum to judge anyone else's work.  I try to stay as objective as possibly expressing an opinion at all, since my opinion is worth  ---giant pile of meadow muffin-- because of my lack of knowledge in this arena.

But I have witnessed many people judging and dissecting hundreds of other members arcade builds. I'm not one of them though.

I like this thread. It is interesting to see these posts through someone else's eyeballs.

Why are you posting endless lists of files etc that you've looked at/downloaded...makes a boring read I'm afraid...
Are you still going with the pre purchased hyperspin drive? Or did I see the word mala buried somewhere in one of your posts?
Pre purchased hyperspin drives equal a lot of pain....

If the moderator's have issue with my build thread and how I post play by play of my research journey with all of my lists, then they will either ask me to stop
posting such updates and I will stop.  I started my research many months before I started posting my experiences researching and I will continue the research
if the moderators advise me to stop posting such experience on this thread, and trust me, I will have no problem with it if they advise me to stop posting because
it will not stop me from researching. The lack of freedom to post this stuff is not going to derail my plans to study and research this hobby.

I have a Hyperspin setup with a few games. I got the help of my cousin who I found out figured out Hyperspin after I told him that I
started this project.  With his help, I learned what I needed to  in order to set it up on my computer.

Thanks for your feedback. I decided that it is not fair to the group to mislead them that this is a project that I am actually making progress with in regards to the physical build, at this time, the project is not a "build" at this time per se. And I am aware that my updates about what I read, study,
and copy/paste to my personal notes about what I study is not 100% relevant to a Arcade Cabinet build project.

I agree that if someone posted notes and updates like this,
I would find it intolerable to read because of the boredom factor as well!!!

If you think it is boring to read these posts about what I study, imagine how boring it is to study other people's build threads and copy/paste each post to multiple categories in MS Word.  LMAO!!  :banghead:

My next post will be related to the build but I may not get to it because I am in the middle of a project of scanning 1000s of family photos and I am about half way through. I should be done in 1 month or so, then I can actually post FUN UPDATES!!

I will be honest, I think your posts are extremely weird, but they don't bother me at all. If you find it therapeutic, heck, it's doing somebody some good. But yes, they are very strange, indeed. But you don't have to quit them on our account. :-)
