One mans trash.... Free outrun cab!
« on: November 16, 2016, 03:57:39 pm »
I spotted this cabinet probably a year ago for the first time in this guys warehouse out back behind our sheet metal shop at work, and then today it was out behind  his next to a pile of junk so I asked and he said it was mine if I wanted it.   Says the "video stopped working" but he's never opened up the cabinet.

So now it's here now my garage till I can have a look at it

Hah! Thanks. I thought I saw "Outrun" on it somewhere.  Ya on the bezel above the wheel.

How the hell do you play Aztarac on that?  ???

Pole position cab, Outrun steering wheel, generic hi-lo shorter, Aztarac marquee.  If boards are inside, I'd guess they would be outrun.

Man, too bad it's not enough of any one thing. The control panel does look like something someone made up themselves.

I'm thinking mame then.  I could do a nice custom control panel have a solid mame racing cab with legit nostalgia.  Sounds a lot easier than trying to restore this to an original pole position cab when it's obviously missing quite a bit

Opinions?

I think a lot of rat turds and old food wrappers  oh and these too....

I couldn't see a label on that board not sure what's in there.  Not booting up all of that tin foil may have caused a short, gotta clean it out tomorrow and then I'll break out the multi meter

And I'll have to do some homework on monitors. So far I haven't and know nothing about servicing but obviously that pcb dangling off the back of the monitor should be connected to the back of the tube

Looks like an OutRun PCB to me.

Are both of those switching power supplies wired up completely?

Looks like an OutRun PCB to me.

Are both of those switching power supplies wired up completely?

Both are getting line voltage.  Or at least they would be if there was any copper conductor left !? There is no wire in there at all

Aside from that all the wiring has been chewed to ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- and a whole lot of wiring going nowhere with regard to pedals.  It's gonna need complete disassemble.   And I fear this cabinet could be considered biohazard after the 10 lbs of rat turds I vacuumed out. Don't even want to touch anything.   Gonna need some latex gloves just to tear it down lol.

not sure what I'm looking at here. If anybody knows I'd appreciate some Info thanks

Everything from the power supply to the pcb looks like it's in tact thankfully but everything up stream of that would need to be replaced.

Just burn this thing and save yourself the headache.  I speak from experience.

I'm seriously considering it.  I'll probably gut the cab see if any of the controls can be salvaged sell off / give away anything the community wants.. Its time to explore building an upright racing cab from scratch with my g27

I like the idea of an upright cab to save floor space. If I could figure out how to incorporate the clutch it cold be used for pc gaming too.

Maybe it's time to start a new thread on that idea and well keep going here on the tear down of this cabinet.

If you decide to MAME it, let me know how much you want for that untested Outrun PCB.

Now that I've taken a closer look at it, I don't think that's an Outrun PCB.  Looks different from the pictures I've seen on the web.

Anyone have any idea what it could be?

Maybe you can use this to identify it?:  http://www.arcaderestoration.com/FindPcbs.aspx
