How to enable coin mech?
« on: November 13, 2016, 08:50:24 pm »
I bought a cocktail arcade from Craigslist running a 60 in 1 board, any idea how I can enable the coin mech?

I notice that you have the machine off when you inserted the coin.

Some acceptors will not accept COIN when machine is off (due to the lock out coil unit and it looks like you have it).

if you lift up the part of the mechanism that has the big QC control sticker on it, you can insert a coin under the backside what which you would like to accept.

then the mechanism will work for the coin of that type.

for the 60-in-1 board... you should have a test and service switch someplace either inside the door there or...somewhere. whever the person who made it... put it.

press and hold one of the buttons and apply power to the machine... this will boot it into either enter the test or service mode. in this mode there are some virtual dip switches to enable or disable the freeplay and also how many coins you need to enter to begin a game.

you will probably want the first bank row all "off" this enables 1 coin per play.

and the second row set to "on on off on off off off" this will disable freeplay and properly set your machine to cocktail mode.

(the music is annoying trust me) but if you like it the way it is and just want the freeplay disabled, set bank 2 dip switch 3 to off

I removed the part, opened it, but I saw no place to put a quarter. 2ndly I tried loosening the screw, but it still rejects the coin. I also tried with the machine on, but nothing

And the wires go to the chassis of the monitor?
The 60 in 1 should have a cable to to coin mech.

And is has to be turned on, if the machine is turned off, it will never accept coins.

http://www.ultimarc.com/controldiags.html (bttom of the page) has a little explanation

Looks to be one of this kind of mech - the coin is placed inside where this pic shows the yellow label - lift and place a coin of the type the mech should accept and it should then accept that type/size of coin.

yes, the coin you want to accept goes in the outermost slot (colored gray). this appropriately sizes the inner slot (colored yellow) to properly accept the coin size matched. the spring holds the coin in place. just lift, insert the coin from the side and allow the spring to pull the mechanism down and hold it in place.

just rolling through is good. that means it's sizing properly.

there is a trim pot that will allow for better acceptance. turn it more clockwise for better acceptance.

also be sure you aren't using an odd coin. (like a special issue or a particularly new coin (as old coins may not work) or a particularly old coin (as newer coins may not work))

the mechanism compares the metal composition to the "test" coin. if it's close enough... it will accept.

I'm using  1997 non special quarter. I also tried a 1970s quarter. Both reject the coin. I can't locate the "trim pot", here are some photos of the device.

Random question , could it possibly be rejecting coins because the 60 in 1 is set to free play mode? Edit: I switched free play off, still rejects quarters.

I turned it all the way clockwise (slack) and it still rejects the coin. For good measure I turned it all the way counterclockwise and it does the same

ok follow the wires back
u should have 12 volts dc on the red wire
the white wire should be coin pulse out
the black wire should be ground
again it must be 12 volts between the red and black wire

I can understand that the machine can't add a credit without power, but would power supply have anything to do with a coin falling through or not?

Yes, if its a electrical mech it will need the power on to compare the coin.
Otherwise it will just reject it.

this style of mechanism is designed to reject everything regardless. even with no power or defect.

you put the coin in... it starts rolling down the chute.... when it passes by its sensors it compares it to the test coin. if it doesn't match... it does nothing. the coin continues down the chute and out the front. but if it does match, a solenoid activates ... a trap toor is opened part way down the chute and the coin falls out of the acceptor and into the machines coin box. once the coin has cleared the acceptor (has a sensor on the way out) it issues the pulse that tells the game a coin has been inserted.

maybe whoever built the machine didn't attach the power to the mechanism. you'll need to check to see if there is 12 volts between the red wire and the black wire on the plug attached to the acceptor.

There are 3 wires going out from the coin mech (red, white, black), as far as I can follow, they're hooked up to the 60 in 1 Jamma board. Would that power the coin mech?

the red wire must be tied to 12 volts dc
the black wire must be tied to ground
the white wire must be tied to coin 1 input on the jamma interface
it is that easy

There is a red wire hooked up to 12v on this thing, I am not sure if it's the one leading to the coin door, then it's hooked up to the switch which powers everything (monitor, jamma, speakers)

I suppose the next step is to trace the exact red wire to make sure it's hooked up to 12v?

that "thing" is called the power supply
and no i see the red on 5 volts
black on ground
orange/white on ground
orange white and  yellow  and orange on 12 volts

it does not look like the coin mech is even wired into it
i would trace the wires from the coin mech backward carefully and see exactley where the red wire ends up
DO NOT FIDDLE WITH THAT "THING" as it powers your 60-1
and u will do dammage in a big way
i wish u had a meter
would make life so easy

I finally traced the wire. It splits into 2 (see first pic) and 1 is connected to ground, the other to 12v.

I added the green circles and the green highlighting. Now what can I do?

It wont split into 2 across 12v and ground, that would be a direct short!

You really need to buy a multi meter.
They are inexpensive and will save all the guesswork and time thus far.

Well shoot. When I get home tonight I'll trace the wire again. I'll buy a meter as well in order to test this.

Quick question, how am I supposed to test the red wire? Wouldn't I have to do this from the end that's plugged into the coin mech (since the other end is supposedly hooked up to the power supply)?

red and black at the plug that plugs in the coin accepter
just un-plug it from the accepter and insert props in the plug end
not the accepter pins but the plug end
turn machine on
u either have 12volts between the red and black or u do not

in this case i think going to the store and buying the cheapest volt meter (even a 12 volt test light would work) and checking for 12 volts at the connector would be super easy.

I've decided to devote the rest of my evening to fixing this once and for all...

Going to walmart to get a meter, I shall report back.
If I get this one, https://www.walmart.com/ip/Digital-Multimeter-10709/14521541 how do I use it? I know nothing about wiring, and am only slightly ashamed to ask such basic questions.

from off
the scale on your left is dc/ac volts
click to 20 that will more then do
do make sure the dispaly reads dc not ac
if u are in that scale and it gives u no sign of dc but if u hit the squilli buttom (it changes it from dc/ac) and it shows
ac just tap it again and u are in dc
black probe is ground (so black wire to the accepter plug)
red wire is + on your meter vma/hf that would be the + input to your meter so red wire to accepter plug
at that time with power on (machine and meter) you should get 12 volts

some will say 11.34 is a little low from a switcher
12 would be prime or a tad higher
the unit truly dose not work right under 12volts
its get goofie
i wonder about some thing
go to the power supply
see if this rings out for u
+5/+12/ see if u are getting the full +5

red always go to the + in your case the top screw = red
2 be safe I would say #3 screw down gets the black probe
the reading there should be
+5 volt
the 4th 1 down to the #3 screw should give u 12v - red probe

So with red on screw #1 and black on screw #3, I got between 5.0 and 5.1, which is good. Which are the other 2 screws I'm supposed to measure?

Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk

Edit: I uses the red probe on screw #4 (that reads +12V/2A) and the black on still on #3 (ground 2), and I got 11.2v

There's no lights on the cabinet. Only things drawing power are the 60 in 1, speakers, and monitor. And apparently the coin door

ok we need to do a veery simple test
power the unit off (better yet un-plug it)
now remove the jamma plug to the 69-1 board
power unit back up
test the 2 points i said should be 12 volts
and see what u get now
the answer tels me where to go next

Without the jamma board it hovered around 10.65 (???), when I plugged it back in, it went up to around 11.30.

I filmed videos of this, but YouTube is being buggy.
