Custom Build On\Off Swtich
« on: November 08, 2016, 04:54:31 am »
Not this is the correct place...

Got Raspberry Pi loaded with RetroPie, most of the MDF is cut out for the tabletop cabinet
The IEC male connector that the kettle lead plugs into and supply the power to the whole setupis being ordered but im also looking at one that has a power switch built in. This seems better as the cabinet will have an on\off switch but the back connectors for these have their own soldiering points???
Anyone installed one of these switches and i would have thought that the connection between the switch and the power socket would be built in?

Assuming your mean a IEC C14 type switch then this image shows how they are wired:-

Very simple to wire up and I've done it a number of times on various projects.

Some come with 3-tab switch and others come with a 4-tab switch.

The wiki has directions/diagrams/pics on how to wire both. (Since the wiki is still down, here's an Internet Wayback Machine link.)
