I have a GT that has been sitting in storage that I just picked up. It does not boot, nothing comes up on the screen, troubleshooted it to not be the monitor. There are 2 green lights and no ide activity after initial power up. What can you pros tell me? I really don't want to buy a new board if possible.

there is in fact 3 leds on the green/red golden tee boards
all must be blinking.
the 2 green leds are your board status1 and 2 leds
the red led is ide (hard drive cd rom)
now if it is not blinking but the other 2 are ? then u need to look at the hard drive
1=is it hooked up ?
2=is it powered ?
by power +5/gnd/gnd/+12 which should be coming from your power supply
start there

Hard drive is powered and hooked up, power supply is good. Another board boots fine with same items including video card. This one just black screen.

it is well after pre-boot and main boot (2 green leds blinking)
then and only then will the call for ide happen (red led blinking)

if swapping a known good video card and hard drive to the board still doesn't boot. remove and re insert any socketed IC's on the board.

failing that, could just be a dead board.

the reason I am asking for status lights is very  simple
u do not need a video card in these boards to know if it is booting or not
status 1 and 2 are your indicator's
if they are blinking ? then u would look for the ide (red-led) to be blinking
if all this is ok? then by all means use the video card
but up to that point it is really not needed

Ok status 2 constant blinking green
Status 1 solid green
Red IDE no activity

Swapped all socketed chips, no change

is to do with the eprom
what build is it ?
also did u replace the socket as I have explained to ppl they go bad
u can stop swapping parts and focus on u15
also chk around u14 for bad solder joints as this is the sub cpu and is called in with u15
side note here for u as I explained before the video card and hard drive are NOT required
until u have blinking status 1 and status 2 lights
once u see that. then add back in a hard drive and see if the ide light will blink (drive enabled and found)
if it dose then try in your video card and see if u get full boot screen
status 1 light is the post boot sub system, not making boot. there is other causes
but it is best to do the easy steps first
also make sure it is a rock solid +5v going to the board.
can u up-load a picture so I can tell what rev the board is ? this way I can better help u

I checked the u15 socket, did a continuity test from the chip to the bottom of the board so that should mean we have a good socket and connection. We tried a different boot rom that was working in another board 2.09, so it's fair to say boot rom chip is also good. Have 5v at power supply board connection. I have attached a pic.

You guys are amazing! I really don't want to buy another board.

Here you go, there is nothing drastically noticeable to me.

the status1 side or the chip (u2) so in your picture the left side
u need to clean and check each pin is solid on it land

here is what I do when I see this
1=stiff tooth brush
1=small can of contact cement cleaner
dip brush in solvent and scrub GENTLY along the pins
next u will need a sharp pin (probe) very sharp
and a Magnify glass to inspect the pins for corrosion and or lifting off of the lands
short of a bed of nails it is the only way I know of
and I have tried every thing I can think of
now if these same pins are down solid ?
we are not all lost here
as I have the jedec file for that chip

just do these simple things and see if it will clear your bug out..

reason I pointed u to u2 is because it is the main sub cpu for the status1 light
and it is a Spartan chip  (board configuration chip) (input-out-put-ide etc)

Oh gawd...I don't have contact cement cleaner. Could I use something else like rubbing alcohol?

Rubbing alcohol is usually isopropyl alcohol which is perfect for cleaning electronics.

"rubbing" alcohol can be anywhere from 50% to 80% isopropyl alcohol by volume... the remaining part is water.

gonna want to let it thoroughly dry before powering it back on.

I personally go to the pharmacy counter and get 99%. you just have to reassure them you aren't making hash oil with it.

I cleaned up all the pins, still the same. Anything else I could try?

very very few
is your 5 volts stable ?
is the 3.3 volt requlator stable ? u13 ?
if yes to both ?
then i would hazard to say your exlink is south..
common for the age and crap i seen on the pins
