Fall Toy Preview Mini Arcades
« on: September 28, 2016, 09:40:03 am »
They were covering the fall toy preview on the morning news and these caught my eye. They showed a Qbert and Centipede version but didn't give much info.

Games: Asteroids Deluxe | Atomiswave | Centipede | Championship Sprint | Defender | Donkey Kong | Dig Dug | Frogger | Ikari Warriors | Missile Command | Pac-Man | Pole Position | Robotron | Spy Hunter | Tempest | Super Mario Strikers

Those toys were a hit in the early 90's as a cheaper form of portable entertainment compared to the $200 gameboy and such. Now, you can just buy a used nintendo ds for $20. These toys are a flop now.

Try and buy a pristine Tron or Frogger tabletop and see how much they kept their value compared to a ds. Point being - lower volume. Niche market = Ching Ching down the line. Not saying these will be - but i wouldn't discount it.

But playing Qbert on a ds or even on a current console is garbage.  If that Qbert machine plays a real arcade Qbert version, I would get it..assuming it's not $1000

These are games with an lcd screen similar to a calculator or alarm clock. Check the websites product page. The frogger tabletop game had a vfm screen which is in color and much better quality.

All of those games are not collectors items. People literally cant even give away these pac man games i see in yard sales. They are like ten bucks new and people still dont buy them. But those "retro consoles", have been flying off the shelves during holiday season. Dollar generals in my area sold out in my area.

Dunno, I think they look kinda neat for what they are, the color screen is a nice add. I guess my expectations weren't that high.  ;D Centipede made me wonder if they'll do a small trackball or just go mini-joystick with it.

Good thing they said those are prototypes...

It gives them time to correct that Q*bert screen orientation.

Ahh, yep it's a joystick, kinda figured. Too bad they didn't get a little more detailed on these in control and screen orientation. I suppose having the same footprint on all reduces manufacturing costs and your average Joe doesn't care.

Thank you for reaching out! The games are currently available in Walmart, Amazon, Toys R US and Barnes and Noble.

Right now we have PacMan and Space Invaders but we will be intruding Qbert real soon and many more great titles!

Thank you for your interest!

Intruder alert.  ;)

Haaa, stop the humanoid! I wonder if Qbert will be color when they 'intrude' it, the ones in Walmart are 30 bucks and have that lame monochrome screen.

Q*Bert plays like the NES version.  Centipede maybe like the Atari version?  Both are pretty fun, I haven't got to play them much because the kids have hijacked them and taken them to play.

Pac-Man is pretty basic, black & white, low frame rate, plays like an old electronic game, joystick is kinda hard to get in the direction you want (Q*bert and Centipede have physical 4 way restrictors, Pac-Man does not).

Same black / white electronic game feel to space invaders, however, easier to control, the graphics and gameplay are better than the Pac-Man one.
