Drift stage had a new beta build in the last fortnight, more that can be said for 90's arcade racer in 3 1/2 years.

In fact it's never had one.

Racing Apex and 90's Arcade Racer look fun. The other two I don't think I would play.

Yeah 90s Arcade racer is the worst offender of the bunch, but it seems like they have all been in development forever...

As long as you can remove the guns, IMO. Wtf is that about?

I don't mind the guns, as long as you have the option, car combat can be fun... Now we just need the game to come out to find out... It does seem like they tried to combine like 4 different games into 1.

That's kinda my problem with it. I'm willing to take a look, but if the driving isn't good the rest of it can go hang, so far as I'm concerned.

"Good" being a highly sensitive term, I realise.

Yup, I thought exactly the same thing. They just seem totally out of place with the obvious Virtua Racing style aesthetic they're going for.

I would be happy if any one of these games actually released so we could judge from actual hands on experience.

Racing Apex ISN'T dead! http://www.indiedb.com/games/racing-apex/images/racingapexupdate

Funny I was just gonna post this, I actually went on the Racing Apex Facebook page and sent them a pm asking them for an update and they responded with this. So sometimes ask and ye shall receive! Still a little disheartening to find out they are still working on the demo though after all this time. I'd rather they be working on the full game. I sent them a note back saying how important it was they keep the community updated and that they should update the steam page as well.

I have to say sometimes I'm not a fan of Steam early access but in the case of these racers I feel like its the perfect platform. They can put out what they have and make a little money to keep the game development going. I'd gladly pay for unfinished versions of any of these games right now so that they can continue development. I suggested this to them in my reply...

If only that were also the case with the 90's Arcade Racer. No updates in over a year. The original developer (Pelikan) never responds to any messages. The team who came in to 'help' (Nicalis) never respond to anything either. What a bunch of A-holes. It had been jokingly predicted that the Wii U would be a dead console before the game ever saw the light of day, but it actually turned out to be a fairly prescient statement.

Do you want to know what the real bummer is though? I was more excited by the aesthetic of the tracks in the 90's Arcade Racer, from the brief footage that's been shown so far, replete will all their Scud Race, Outrun, Virtua Racing and Daytona 1 & 2 and general Sega 'blue skies' homages, than anything I've seen in Sega's actual new 2017 version of Daytona. FFS! (Anyway, rant over, I'm just feeling miserable because I've been dying of flu and coughing my lungs up for what feels like an eternity)

Yeah I'm totally with ya on the Daytona championship thing. The game looks real boring in my opinion. Looks like the just made a barebones Daytona without any of the whimsy...

From what I've read of the last communications with the developer of the 90s arcade racer Antonis was that the game is finished somewhere and Nicalis is failing to release it for some reason. But I suspect that is all Bull. Who knows.

Power Drive 2000 has gone radio silent.

Drift stage is still in development but is moving at a snails pace and in my opinion is not shaping up to be much of a game.

At least we can say we got an update from the Racing Apex guys...

In the meantime I'd like to give props to 2 games that are being developed with regular updates and are shaping up nicely....

Thanks pal!

Wow, Grip is looking awesome now. I remember seeing some early footage of it ages ago and thinking it looked pretty good, but then I just completely forgot about it. I'll have to give it a try. Loving all the drum 'n' bass in the soundtrack as well, sounds amazing.

I finally got a refund from 90s arcade racer. It's not just the massive wait it's the complete lack of info plus Antonis won't reply to any messages at all so he can piss off

Yeah honestly its the lack of communication from all of these developers that's so infuriating. Its one thing if you have no intention of finishing a game and you just blow everybody off, its a whole other thing when you refuse to put out any information on something you hope someone will pay for or has already paid for. This is why I told the Racing Apex guys they should update all of the social media channels they are on and how important it was that they do.

I just don't get it, it seems like common sense.

That page has looked like that for a year, I don't actually see any change so who know what that means... but here's hoping...

I'd read somewhere that Anthony (Pelikan13) who made the 90's Arcade Racer sold all rights to the game to the publisher Nicalis many months ago and no longer has anything to do with it whatsoever.

I'm pretty sure that Nicalis are sitting on the game to make it available for the launch of the Nintendo Switch in March so hopefully not long to wait now.

Anything to support that? Besides the fact it's a commercially sensible idea, I mean :)

Not that I'll be getting a Switch, of course.

Mind you I don't have any insider info or anything like that to confirm, but word on the street is that the architecture of the Wii U is totally different from the switch, so wii u apps might not automatically port to the switch.

For the record I'm not getting a Switch until December, when Mario Odyssey comes out, and I'm pretty die hard camp Nintendo, so that should tell you something.

How did you go about getting it mate? I've been holding off and holding off, but I think I'm ready to finally admit defeat on this one. Was it just an email to Pelikan?

Peripherally related 90's Arcade Racer reference from 21st Feb 17 - http://www.gamasutra.com/view/pressreleases/292115/NieR_Vocalist_Emi_Evans_Joins_Scarlet_Moon_ArtistsRoster.php

I wonder if it even still exists. The Switch is out, for one, and still no sign.

Interesting. Yeah I don't know maybe a miracle will happen and Nicalis will surprise everyone. The thing that pisses me off is that it still says publisher of 90s arcade racer in their twitter description. They cant be bothered to update anyone. I honestly sometimes just wish the would come out and say its cancelled already. That way at least we aren't left wondering.

Racing Apex are seeking test drivers: http://www.indiedb.com/games/racing-apex/news/racing-apex-test-drivers-wanted

I'm looking forward to it, only one guy working on the game right now, but he's managed to get quite a lot of work done.
