Help! I seem to have forgotten how to do anything in MALA... background help

OK, so it has been several years since I really messed with MALA, and am trying to make a new layout. I have a background, it looks good in the layout editor in preview, but when I launch MALA I get just a solid blue background color. I believe I have all files in the right place, but I am sure I am missing something simple. Can't seen to find a good working link to the MALA wiki so hopefully someone can help me here. Pics attached to illustrate.

Edit: OK, it was something with where I had my files. I started from scratch and unchecked the box that says "Layout files (excluding the *.mll are located in a folder with the same name as the layout." Still not entirely sure what the problem was, but that fixed it.
