Vector games in Groovymame
« on: May 19, 2022, 03:31:19 am »
Hello everyone, I'm trying to configure the vector games as best they can because they can't be seen on my monitor. The writings, especially the smaller ones, do not read well. It seems as if there is an effect that makes the image vibrate. I tried to follow some suggestions from the older posts, but I didn't get a good result. How could I configure the vector.ini to have the best result? Thank you in advance.

I found that stock MAME worked better for my vector games.  So I use GM for all of my games except the vector games.  I  launch my vector games with stock MAME.

Image will vibrate because vector games needs high resolutions like 640x480 interlaced or sometimes 640x576 interlaced (for low games with low frequencies). Besides many games even in original cabs flicker.

Another problem is with super resolutions - vector games are drawing lines by default using single pixel so if You are using super resolutions horizontal lines are ok but vertical are very thin, barely visible. At least couple versions ago was like this.

No one that has a good setting enough with these Vector Games ?

i asked some on youtube if mame is better than AAE

"For "Asteroids" and "Asteroids Deluxe" AAE is superior as MAME does not have the bullet glow effect that AAE has.  The other games are better played with MAME, IMO."

i did some messing around with Vector games, i tried Mameui with Hlsl enabled & GM.

I find that i like GM with hlsl enabled & switchres enabled for Vector Games .

With GM i created the game.ini (astdelux.ini)example  with only the hlsl & vector lines in there

# CORE VECTOR OPTIONS
# DIRECT3D POST-PROCESSING OPTIONS
# VECTOR POST-PROCESSING OPTIONS
# BLOOM POST-PROCESSING OPTIONS

the bloom scale will add that glow to the vector lines
then some other settings that you can adjust in CORE VECTOR OPTIONS

i am enjying asteroids deluxe , still busy setting up the others as well

hope this helps
