I finally tried the Brazilian mod and it's pretty easy.  Put loadiine.ovh  in your wii's bookmarks and navigate to load the wii u homebrew channel.  I actually prefer this as there won't be a mountain of modified IOS files and crap on your wii u... it's stock.

The only problem I'm having now is finding wii u games to try that I don't already own.  Captain Toad was great, but it took me all of three evenings to 100% it.  I'm about to uninstall Mighty No.  9.  It's every bit as awful as rumored.... every time you die it dumps you to a load screen and you have to wait several seconds for the game to start again.
I guess there is Wonderful 101 and Star Fox.  I think I've got everything else worth playing.

Mighty No 9 is gasp inducingly bad.

Paper Mario is decent but Nintendo did everything they could to make the combat horrible.

Apparently there isn't a real Pokemon game on it.  Haven't even booted Pokken Tournament.

Paper Mario is a good suggestion, so I'll try that one next.  Those games are hit and miss for me.  I enjoyed the wii version a lot.

Just a fyi, I've been playing Paper Mario Color Splash as suggested the past couple of weeks.  Aside from the stupid card gimmick it's fantastic.  The humor is there and the coloring mechanic is very engaging.  It's probably one of the best games on the system.

If you go into the settings, you can make it so the cards can be played without using the touchpad.  Helps a lot.

Eh that's not what bothers me.  In the last Wii one you just played Mario Bros. style.  I hate rpg style battles.

You can read up on WiiU hacking at the GBATemp WiiU hacking forum, especially under the WiiU USB Loading topic.

Nevermind, I had the USA filter on.... I see it.  I'm going to wait a couple days for the USA version myself.

Thought was that maybe they manage to lock it down before the USA version leaks, so might as well grab 'just in case.'  Making the WiiU region free seems like a bit of a headache.... but hey, I was ripping security chips off Wave Race and shoving them in Jet Force Gemini carts so I could play Majora's Mask 15 years ago....

Well fair point on that.  I might backup now just in case.

Hey have you tried those Just Dance games?  I've always liked rhythm games, including ddr, so I loaded one up but I didn't understand it.  A bunch of near indecipherable icons floated across the screen while a neon panda shook it's money maker.  I thought I was having a flashback or something.

Nah, probably 99% as good as the Switch version and they don't want consumers buying it for WiiU.

Well they interviewed Reggie about it.  Basically loading is a tad bit longer, the game is running 720p instead of 900p (when you run the switch version in portable mode it's 720p anyway) and the draw distance is reduced.  I was afraid that they released a shoddy port and I would have to fork over 360 bucks for the switch.

p.s.  Auto-correct is butchering my replies  glitchy is a word dang it!

OK got everything sorted out, Made a dumb choice of game to use though and now cant have Mario Kart DS back again. At least I got Super Mario Kart instead :)  Quick question for those that have done the hack.  Is there any way to get the files directly to the sd card so you can install without continually pulling it out connecting to pc writing to it and then putting it back again.  I know there is an FTP app but don't know if this will have write to SD available.   Thanks.

Yes, you can have Mario Kart DS back. Just grab the other region's version. That's a different TitleID. Either run it after you run Haxchi sysmenu, or you can modify the meta.xml of the out-of-region game so you don't need to run Haxchi first.

If you're familiar with Wii U USB Helper, just grab the Helper Transfer app for the Wii U side. Don't expect much though. You only get around 1MB/sec with Wii U network.

FTPiiU (and FTPiiU_everywhere) can also be used as ftp servers on the WiiU.

Helper can now install the title after it transfers, but it doesn't yet delete the successfully installed installation packages, so you can never install more than the SD card's capacity at a time unless you set up an FTP script to delete the previous directory when a new one appears.

The hacxchi stuff seemed like a lot of bother for the digital stuff so I haven't tried it yet.  I've just been using the exploit for downloadable titles with a physical release.  Has the process gotten simpler?

I use Haxchi's sysmenu option for signature/region patching, and sometimes I use it for direct homebrew launching. I think it's pretty simple. Buy and download a compatible game while there's no USB drive attached, add the Haxchi installer (I use v2.5) to your SD, change the ini file so default=sysmenu, run the install from Homebrew Launcher.

Then, if you want to use something that's fake signed, it's one click, wait for the Wii U Menu to reload, and play.

If you're not interested in fake-signed eShop titles and DLC, and you don't want to poke around the system via FTP, then Haxchi doesn't offer much. Honestly, Haxchi doesn't offer anything you can't do by using the browser exploit to launch Mocha. But it works every time and it doesn't require an active network connection and web server.

I like that I have it as an option, and if I don't run it, it's not much more than a different rom.zip tucked away in one title's directory.

@nexusmtz,  Thanks,   I shall have a look at that whilst I wait for a 64GB Card to arrive, Using a 16GB one at the moment and it's just a PITA.  Thanks for the info on Mario Kart too.

Yup, pony up the 15 bucks and get a 64GB SD card.  Life is much easier on the WiiU afterwards.

Zelda loads a hell of a lot faster off my USB thumb drive versus the disk.... I just used a 128GB there and haven't come close to filling it.

Yeah my usb stick also loads faster than the on board disk.  I'm not sure why.
