Megatouch Ion Evo (2007 & 2013)
« on: June 10, 2016, 12:04:10 am »
I'm having intermittent booting issues.  Sometimes it will just sit there and I get the "No Video" message one the screen.  Cycle power a couple of times, and it will boot.  Should I be looking at a logic board or power supply?

I did find a logic board on eBay for a good price:

double check the power supply, but as i've mentioned the purple ECS boards are JUUUUUUUUNK. I've literally fixed or replaced all of them.

that CPU on that board for sale you linked is an absolute beast to cool. I got stuck with one of those athlon 3000+ CPU's on one i have in the shop and had to put a 6000 RPM fan on the small CPU cooler to flow enough air to cool properly. even then it's a tad warm....i ended up hacking a hole on the left side with an aux fan to pull hot air out. it's not super ugly, but it works.

you can get a mobile athlon or a GEODE CPU for this board, the TDP is like 9 watts TDP opposed to the athlon 3000+ at 60 watts and the mobile CPU's need bugger all to cool and 1.7ghz is plenty for what it's doing.

I think I'm hosed on the 2007 and maybe even the 2013.

The '07 crashes almost every time I hit the admin button and the 2013 won't hold touch screen calibration.  I don't want to keep pouring money into these considering I've put a bit into them already and I keep encountering more problems.

Your 07 sounds like a bad file.  A reload should fix it.  If not,  a new HD.   The install procedure doesn't fix or check for bad sectors.

Your calibration issue could just be gunk under the edge of the screen or missing/damaged tape around the bezel.  The Evo cabinets had conductive layer on the inside for EMI interference compliance.  If the tape around the bezel has gone or shifted,  it can throw off the touchscreen by draining away the energy the panel uses to sense  the capacitance change.  It can't hurt to change it out.  I use fabric "hockey tape" to isolate the panel from the bezel.

Put the new software on the 2013 and it seems to be running well.  :D  My next issue is the software for the 2007.

I have the Force-Ion ISOs(Megatouch Force-ION 2007.5 Disc 1 of 2 V23_00T070420_1642_1OF2), but my Ion only software only goes back to 2009(Megatouch ION 2009.5 Disc 1 of 2 V31_02T090616_1433_1OF2).

Can I use the Force-Ion disc on this Ion Evo?

If you have a 2007 Ion key, you have to use 2007 Ion software. I have Disc 2 of 2 V23_00T070420_1642_2OF2

That's the same ISO set as I have, but it's label Force Ion.

My question is will it work?

I don't want to nuke the drive and find out the machine is now dead.  Thanks.

Its the second disc for Ion. Why wouldn't it work. I wasted my bandwidth uploading it for you here: https://mega.nz/#!ixxECKhb!7SuxBaxltkKwP8oLr8w8aSjZK24bpoZPRY2Zg8ykwbU Not sure when it expires. Grab it now because i am not uploading it again.

Ok link works, stupid hyperlink tag didn't copy/paste correctly the first time. Its all good now, but since its a free account i have no idea how long it will be up so grab now.

FYI by the way, All force software is only one disc. They used the same version numbers up until 2009 when they branched off and changed the versions (linux kernel). v29.11 was the last version that used the same disc 1 for both Force and Ion.

Makes sense.  When I re-installed the 2013, it asked for the second dvd.  I'll give the ISO a whirl.  Thanks!

Both machines are working well now!

The 2007 would not boot with the 512MB stick I got for it.  I'm guessing the timings are off.  Either way, I put the original 128MB back in and it's running great.

I'm going to sell the 2007 and keep the 2013 for a little while.  Thanks for all the help.

It wasn't Crucial RAM.  The funny thing is, it wouldn't even give an error beep.  Just the "no signal" message on the screen.  I swapped the RAM on a hunch and it came to life.  I would still like to upgrade the memory so it's in place if I ever get a newer version key.

the ram is shared by the video. so if the allocation of the bad ram is in the video part. the computer will start to POST, but fail. so fans spin up and things look okay, but no video is being output.

On another note...  Have you ever repainted or fixed holes in these?  There are some holes where they had screws that were too long and punched through.

That's what I figured.

Is there a particular brand/color that's been a good match?

it's going to be tough because the finish on the cabinet is patterned with metalic. any additional paint is going to stick out like a sore thumb if you aren't careful.

I would almost strip the cabinet and repaint it.

I've used "duplicolor high performance wheel coating"  in the past to paint jukebox cabinets. it's made to paint wheels and plastic wheel covers... it sticks to the plastic/existing paint really well. it's not an exact color match (a little lighter), but having everything the same color with the same even "texture" will go miles. i'm not 100% sure they have that product anymore (now seems to be a 2 step color/clear coat )

http://duplicolor.com/product/hyper-silver-coating

so fill/sand your holes and spray the whole works.

Figured out the RAM issue.  Wrong damn speed.  The 2011 has PC3200 and for some reason the kit I had for the other on had PC2700.  Stupid error.
