Ok time to build the worlds LARGEST PINBALL MACHINE!

Just kidding, thats just a piece of plywood in the shop that happened to be in the shape of a pinball cab.
To note: This is a "BETA" build. Im putting this together so I can get exact plans and measurements for Haruman to cut me one out of melamine with a CNC.
This cab probably wont turn out super nice but it'll be a GREAT proof of concept.

So here is my rough "looks like a 4th grader drew em" sketch:

(those are interior dimensions BTW, example width says 13" but with the 2 1/2" sides its 14" wide)

Build the box with a $6 piece of pine:

Finish it up, and put in the trunk to take back to my house:

Start breaking down the computer/case and cutting ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- up with tin snips and a dremel:

test fitting components:

Customize the power supply:

Drilled 2 holes, ran wires through, taped the wires in a few layers of electrical tape, put a bunch of layers of tape on the side I cut

Drillin holes n stuffs:

Moar holes:

Things I spent money on:
Power Supply: $88 (Had to replace the old 250W and get a real one to push a real video card)
IPAC2:             $48 (Existing IPAC2 was borked)
Wood:             $6
Plexi Glass:      $10
Solenoids:       $35
SainSmart:      $23
-----------------------------
TOTAL:            $210

Value of things I didnt spend any money on:
Computer :        $200
SSD:                    $60
VideoCard:          $50
BG LCD Screen:   $25
PF LCD Screen:  $125
Buttons:             $10
----------------------------
TOTAL:                $470

This is only here to give someone wanting to build one a better idea of over all costs (about $680 give or take)

The pine splintered A LOT, so time to break out the bondo and get this cab smooooooth like peanut butter:

Then sand it:

3rd round of bonbo/sanding!

2nd of 4 primer coats:

This is definitely going to be a learn as I go project. Im really happy how the sides turned out, you cant tell there the pine is on top of plywood!

Cant wait to F stuff up!

This is basically being built out of scrap pieces of wood, generally a proof of concept template basis for a CNC design. I get to put some color on the thing tonight, Im kind of excited

Is the final product going to be real machine dimensions, or you keeping it baby sized?

funsized. I could just measure my existing pins and get home measurements if he wants to make a real sized kit to sell but shipping alone makes that cost prohibitive for me.

Taped off the sides for paint:

First of 3 layers of rattle can black:

And yeah, I know the rear vent holes are completely ---fouled up beyond all recognition--- up, but they are functional, and you cant see them anyway.

Masking removed:

With this paint job I almost want to call it HarleyPin:

And my rough/ugly intake fan cut out:

Thats also a good shot of where my doggies hang out when I play pinball.

This is probably ignorant to say, but because of your screen name, I always envisioned you looked like the wrestler Dean Malenko.... :laugh2:

HAHA. I dont look like Dean Malenko, but thats where the screen name came from. I used to go by LLiNRAC , which was just my last name backwards.

This looks great man!

I've always wanted a virtual pin (or real one, but man, space is at a huge premium where I live).

Following this with interest!

Well I have 2 real pins but jeeeeeez is that an expensive hobby!

So I have all the buttons installed. Originally I was going to use leafs for the flippers and nudge but the leafs I have are for metal panels. Maybe I'll get microleafs for the final cab.

Squeezed everything in, but I need to improve wire management.

Totally shocked it all fit and still had room for the screen. I will be adding another fan for the CPU

Setting up the drives...

Pinball FX2 running:

Its was a 23"  but I snagged the ribbon cable and ripped it so that monitor is in the trash. I replaced it with a 21" ASUS that has much better viewing angles, so not a total loss. There is a small gap to the left and right of the monitor but its not too terrible.

I also removed the coin button , and put a regular white button there and put a P1 start button for start.

Installed the side rails:

Dat Archer table:

Its a SUPER tight fit:

I removed the fan from the back, and put it next to the CPU heat sink. Air still flows out the back but now the CPU temps are much better.
I think I am going to make a back box for this, cuts down on "portability" but I think its worth having.

Still need to set up FuturePinball and all that jazz., I also need to cut the last piece of aluminum L for the front and find a way to make the corners a little more comfortable to rest your hands on, but its totally playable and my wife thinks it kinda great.

For 10+ years I thought you were a Juggalo and I was just too scared at the thought to mention it.

I'm not sure if finding out it was inspired by a wrestler is better or worse.

May have to shut off BYOAC for awhile....

3/4" x 3/4" Aluminum L bracket, cut to length.  total cost, like 6 bucks.

Just curious, if that box is a basic sizing prototype, why all the finish work on it?

Yesh, designed to sit on a table not have super long legs to the floor.

Neat project!

What finish work? The finish might look OK in the pictures but it leaves a lot to be desired in the really real world.
Just because its a proof of concept doesn't meant it has to look like a turd wrapped in burnt hair though. :)

All I have set up on it right now is Pinball FX2 and it runs everything smooth like butter. I am starting the back box display prototype part then I'll start trying to get FuturePinball and the like running.

I am curious... Does Pinball FX 2 plays well with an FE? Since a tabletop pinball is one project I wanted to tackle eventually,  I was wondering if there was any way to launch individual tables and make uses of secondary screen with it... I haven't toyed with it yet, just been playing it on my Surface, which is far from optimal...

Hey Malenko. If you haven't bought all the Pinball FX2 tables yet, they're currently on sale on the Steam store. Most are 60%-80% off  8)

Thanks, I owned almost everything already but I picked up MsPloosion, South Park, Portal, Plants V Zombies, and Fantastic 4 for a total of $5.67
