New guy looking for some help

Hi there, I am new to arcade building and especially trying to make my own artwork. I am looking for some help on how to do an overlay for my sideart in either inkscape or photoshop cs2 like in the video in the link below.



 If anyone can show me how to do this on my template I will give you a $20 paypal gift. I really want to learn how to do this.

I hope this don't come off as strange but I have been watching a lot of tutorials on this but can't get it to work. I am so frustrated with it.

not really sure what you are asking, do you have a template for your artwork and you just need to create the art?  or are you starting with nothing and dont even have a template yet?

I have the template but I can't figure out how to do the overlay in Photoshop.

I have attached my template. I was told it's full scale.

OK what you have is a 100dpi jpg file.  Not the best start but it can be worked with,  firstly we need to turn this into a 300DPI image,  (Don't even bother with artwork less than this DPI)

You then have to convert the black part to transparency.  or at least that is what it looks like to me. Never used CS2.   I just quickly knocked out the attached in gimp,  see if it helps you at all.  There is an inch bleed room around all sides.

Watched this video but the guy doesn't go into detail on the size DPI needed. (300 or higher). You're image would need to be 5376 * 6276. Resizing lower DPI images is not a good idea.

Does the template have to be 300 DPI to start with or just the graphics that will be used for the side art?

Yes, The base layer should be set at 300 DPI and the artwork layers added to it should be the same resolution.

Thank you all for your help. Can you please take a look at this side art attempt. When I look at it at 100% you can see the uneven lines in the template, Is this normal? If I were to print it this way would that show up? Any thoughts?

Give yourself a bleed.  Basically extend the outline an extra inch or two and expand the art to fill it.  Then, when you apply it, you trim the art back to fit panel.  Doing that allows you a little "slop" room when applying the art as well.

Oh, and don't forget to mirror the image when you print for the other side...  otherwise you end up with two left sides.

Just saw the PM,  advice given above is correct.  You don't actually use the template as a printing template more a guide to the bit of art that you want to keep. Always oversize the art an inch or so. Anyway thanks for the offer but it's no big one. That is what this forum is all about.  Helping others build their own arcade controls

Let us know if you did get it figured, also its well worth getting a copy printed in mono at kinko's or whatever your local printers is.
Make sure that they print at 300dpi and you can then check it against the machine if already built
