Kortek KT-2914F Problem
« on: June 01, 2016, 07:42:57 pm »
I bought this monitor new around early 2009 for my MAME cabinet and has served me well until now. I turned it on the other day to find the screen has shrunk towards the center and the OSD does little to get it back right. While I am knowledgeable on the computer side of things, the monitor is another story. I'm not afraid to try to tackle the problem but I would like a little help with diagnosing what the problem COULD be and maybe some solutions on trying to fix it.

Thanks.

I just tried and that didn't seem to fix it. I appreciate the reply.

it could be related to capacitors, pretty old chassis now
other issue i know of with these chassis is flyback, that normally causes the picture to go super large though
they also suffer bad solder joints, vertical deflection failure is common as well

Check for a stuck MOSFET (shorted or non-functionally open) in the horizontal timing cap ("S-correction") section.  Those things go bad frequently it seems.  You don't have the symptom I'd expect from that, though.

I have a friend with one of these monitors (though the DF model) with a perhaps identical problem.  Our forum friend qrz was looking into it but was stumped pending a source for parts.  I have a potential donor board I've been meaning to send him.  Anyone else who has scrap chassis boards for this model who would be willing to donate them might also help us resolve the issue.

I might try my hand at replacing the caps and see what that does for me. I'll report back when I've tried that on whether that fixed it or not.

hi
I assume u have the service manual ?
if not I will attach it
look at ic501
this chip stores all settings and controls all settings
it is known to fail
now rem do a cap kit.. that will not hurt at all

Shipping something from the U.S. to Canada for repair/exchange?  Please use USPS to avoid (additional?/excessive?) shipping charges.  PM me if you have any questions.

So, are you saying I should replace the ic501 as well as all the caps?
