So, what are the advantages of upgrading to windows 10?
I know the commercial bla bla bla saying it has a so much more intuitive user interface.
And it is so much faster, especially in combination with a SSD drive. (You should try windows 2000 once on a modern pc with a ssd drive)
Why do they try to push everybody to windows 10. Are their previous products really that bad that they hope everybody stops using them?
Or maybe they try to push us to the cloud, and they will soon ask a monthly fee to keep our contents safe in the cloud.
So, what about my pc I use in my cabinet? I prefer the underlying OS to be hidden during startup. It doesn't need to be connected to the internet, so do I really need all those security updates?
Point is, MS will stop support for older windows versions, like they already do for XP. Other firms will slowly stop supporting them as well. Internet Explorer on windows XP has pretty much become unusable on 50% of the websites. Google starts complaining as well.
I guess it's just a matter of time before someone will invent the windows 10 shrinker that will clean the system back to basics. (Like we have XP lite for our consoles.)
Windows 8 already had some of the new weirdo stuff (metro interface), so the upgrade from there isn't that painfull.
Windows 7 still had the old look and feel. It's hard to say goodbey to it.
Beside that, we have the saying, "If it ain't broken, don't fix it" We keep hearing that the update should be without issues.. But why?
So, they stop updating XP because it's 2 old. It's a big hoax as they still make the updates for XP embedded used in cash registers,
which is an almost identical OS. In my opinion, they stop updating it so we should buy another OS version, and since our PC is 2 slow and doesn't has enough memory, we might as well update that the same time. In the mean time, they keep telling us that we are producing 2 much electronic waste.
Another thing I don't get is why they only offer free updates till the end of July.
It's not like they tell you, hey, you are beta testing our new OS, and due to that, you get it for free.
So yes, they spy on you, but that's only to provide your webpages faster, as they will have all porn sites already cached in your neiborhood. Instead of getting it from servers, they will get it faster from your neibor. (Assuming he has the same taste as you.)
You can't blame them, they have to be inventive to keep sales going. Just keep in your backhead that their only goal is making profit,
and they don't propose 10 for free because they like you or because they are ashame of their previous products and the huge amount of money they ask for it.
So, to get back to my question, what's the benifit of it?
1. We will get support and securioty updates.
2. It's suposed to start faster due to the way it delays the startup of some components.
Instead of waiting 2 minutes for your computer to become ready for use, you see your desktop after one minute.
The next minute, you can start your application, but it will take far more time to start since the delayed coponents are being loaded and started as well.
3. If we buy new hardware, it will have drivers for 10 and maybe not anymore for older windows versions.
4. We have directx 12.
5. We are using the 16Gig memory that is installed in our new pc. (Sorry this one is a joke)
But, it's a little off topic. The real question is, how good is compatibility with emulators and other programs and,
Is it safe to update?
Safe, yes. Needed? yes, because they will create the need.
I hate it when they force me to do things, for no good reason, but that's probably my mentality.
