Got a random bartender named Reagan last year.
My first thought was "I remember when that was a popular baby name."
They must have just started trickling into the workforce.

Woohoo!   I was at game 5 in Pittsburgh, would have been great to see them win it in person, but it's still sweet!

Congrats, I hate the Sharks.

I'm pretty chuffed. I just scored some cash and a reproduction Vs. Castlevania daughter card for Janky Kong. This Hobby and the skills I have learned in it have been very very good to me.

I've never went through that one all the way.  Are there any differences like SMB and Vs. SMB or is it identical to the nes port?

I don't know, I've only gotten to like the fourth level or so on the game, it seems to be a bit harder than the NES version, but that might be because I'm used to using the game pad. I'm pretty excited, I have a spare Unisystem board that I'm going install this card on.

And actually, since Top Gun uses the same card, the guy engineered it so you can flip a dip switch and play either Castlevania or Top Gun.

My understanding is there are differences where hidden stuff is. Hidden 1-ups and vines and stuff like that are moved to different locations.

I believe the primary difference is that about world 6 the arcade joystick fails entirely and you have to complete it by kicking the coin door to activate directional switches.

BTW, names du jour here in MA are Gaelic.  Every other kid I meet is a Seamus, Declan, or Siobhan.

Go figure out your Ticket Master passwords and check your accounts for vouchers.  They lost a class action.  Details are still pending but I've got 10 'free' tickets on my account.

I was reading up on Atari basic last night... interesting stuff.  I'm pretty sure I could make games for the 2600 now.  The question is, would they be any good?

Yots:

Am I being stubborn for holding out for a woodgrain sixer before re-entering the Atari market?  I notice most people play on a jr or a 7800.  I was thinking about doing the composite mod you posted as well and I wonder if people would consider that sacrilege.

Howard, make your own game! There are some cool homebrews out there, I'm sure you could whip up something cool.

I modified a Heavy Sixer I had and a Jr I was given. To be honest,  the Jr has a better picture than the Sixer after the mod, but neither of them really look good on a modern LCD. Since the new TVs process out flicker and stuff, some games don't look right. Asteroids is a good example.

If you have a CRT that has composite in, it'll look awesome. But on a fancy new LCD, I'm not so sure.

I'm chuffed because I actually fixed the Jr. I did the mod but the picture wasn't right. So I figured out the chroma pot was bad and I swapped it out and now I'm golden.

Hmm... see that's why I asked you, I figured you would have done it enough to know.

I wonder if pumping it through a dvd player or something via rf would result in better compatibility with modern tvs.  The audio could be split out which, in theory at least, would reduce the interference commonly associated with a rf connection.

A lot of guys recommend using an old VCR since they do RF so well.

Ok, I just spent the last hour playing a game called "Save Mary" on my 2600. It's a fun puzzle type game that I have never played before, but I would have loved BITD. There are some real unknown gems out there that I missed because I made the transition over to the NES.

Popped the MultiVS board in there in between feedings. Pretty cool.  I need to mess with it more. So much fun.

Was going to post a pic of it and as I am browsing my phone I decide to post this one instead since its Father's Day.

I'll mess with the arcade related stuff later. I need to enjoy this moment and catch up on sleep in my down time.

Happy Father's Day to all arcade dads.

Despite having no children (I know of) I bought myself a father's day gift:

Was on sale for $160 so I couldn't resist. I cleared a lot of tools off my arcade shelf and now I have a pretty great little work space. Also got all the exterior door knobs changed along with all the deadbolts. This is the year of fixing up the house so maybe I can sell it (and move to AZ?)

This is the year of fixing up the house so maybe I can sell it (and move to AZ?)

Yesterday, a plane flying to Phoenix from Houston turned around and relanded in Houston because the Phoenix runway was so hot they thought the tires would explode.

When your city is so hot it's scaring Houstonians, it may be time to reconsider your city.

Holy ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---.  We have the opposite problem here.  The cold kills people.  Same thought process behind hiking, though.  Why would people do that to themselves?

One of them was a 28 year old personal trainer. Madness.
