Sega Rally Revo PC version - arcade controls
« on: March 23, 2016, 05:37:01 am »
I've manage to map my steering controls using the games "launcher" program.
Within the game, my controls want work at all, seems like they are not recognized. I use an "I-pac" in my cab.
Any ideas? Anyone made Sega Rally Revo  work in their cab?

Old thread but I can't get my Logitech wheel configured, or to even appear in this game. It only lets me select "Generic USB Joystick", which is the first item on the list of USB controls that I have. I have 4 and the wheel is last in the list.

How do I get the game to see my wheel? I have the latest patch for the game.

Some older games only went as far as recognising the first one or two USB game controllers (wheel or pad). Ways around this include shuffling your controllers between ports to changes the order, rebooting each time - Windows Control Panel, Devices and Printers, find any game controller and right click, the click game controllers and the list there is in order, IIRC.

I use a program called UJR, which maps any or all combinations of other game controller inputs to a virtual wheel, and the virtual wheel is *always* controller #1. Youtube for a tutorial. Setting one blanket profile isn't too hard, but for per-game profiles you need windowspy from the AHK package. No scripting or anything, it just becomes a longer process. However, UJR doesn't handle FFB. UCR might, but you'd need to figure that out.

Either way, this changes the order of your controllers, which means you have to reconfigure everything for all your other games and emulators :/

As a side note, if you ever find a way to LAN this game, *please* let me know!

Sega Rally 3 on the Teknoparrot Emu is basically the same game but better and supports LAN...

You pretty much convinced me to scrap the idea of adding this game to my setup haha. I mean I can play it with the hat switch on my racing wheel - that's as close as it gets. It's a nice looking game - I'll leave it as a digital joystick game on my MAME cabinet. It's playable.

(I also run driving games from the same MAME cabinet connected to my 60" TV, so if I want I can drag out the wheel and play games from there.)

@shaolindrunkard
Thanks for the reply, I'll look into it.

This game supports an XBox controller. I think I once tried to get an XBOX controller emulator to work so I could use my own game pad. I think I failed.

I wonder if I could use an Xbox controller emu, and map the steering wheel to that? :dizzy:

I haven't run this personally (too many non-arcade projects at the moment), but a lot of the games use the triggers (z-axis) for gas and brake on xbox360 controllers.  Did you try mapping to those?

I had no idea the XBox controller had analog triggers  :banghead: I just looked it up. One of the control layouts in the game uses them for gas and brake! Looks like I will have to play with that later.

Thanks for the heads up!

Played the game a lot last night. The wheel works fine.

For this game I also use Joy2Key and map a button to Alt-F4 so I can escape immediately out of the game - for my arcade front end. So it acts like MAME.

How To Get Wheel And Pedals To Work With SEGA Rally Revo

Start here and install the 32 bit version x360ce, following these instructions:

How to use x360ce emulator with SEGA Rally Revo on PC
https://gamerinfo.net/game/sega-rally-revo/x360ce/

Again, make sure you install the 32 bit version, and install it inside the Revo game folder. The instructions in the link above are very thorough.

You may need to manually install .NET updates to make it work - I did. Make sure to check the system requirements (required files) if you get any errors upon launch.

Run x360ce
from inside your Revo folder.
Figure out which of the controller tabs belongs to your wheel.

Important: You will probably need to go to the "Advanced" tab, and change the "Device Sub Type" from Wheel to Gamepad. It won't work otherwise.

You can grab premade setups for your controller within x360ce. I'm not going to go through all of that here. Just try the different tabs.
You can use the "Auto" button to fill in the controls with your chosen setup, or just map your own.

If you want to use footpedals you can do that too.

Open SEGARallyLauncher and view the controls there to help you map them. This took some time and was confusing, but I eventually got it.

Important
In SEGA Rally Revo Launcher, make sure you select the first control setup for the XBOX controller. There are two.

My Settings:
These settings work with my Logitech Driving Force Pro USB. These are the key settings for steering and pedals.

Under the General tab

Left Side (of controller)
Trigger = IAxis 6 (for brake)
Stick Axis X = Axis 1 (steering)

Right Side
Trigger = IAxis 2 (for gas)
X Button = Button 6 (mapped to paddles for shifting)
B Button = Button 5 (mapped to paddles for shifting)

I have my wheel setup so that the X Button on the wheel is Enter (for the menus).
The Shift Up paddle is like Escape.
The Left Paddle opens up an Option Menu for manual or automatic transmission when in the car select menu.
I can use the D-pad or wheel to navigate the menus.
I also mapped a button to Alt-F4 for instant game exit (using Joy2Key for that).

Dead Zone
Once you get analog steering setup and working, which is pretty easy, you will need to deal with a huge dead zone issue.

Two Steps:
1. There is a dead zone slider under the Options tab. Go ahead and slide it way down low. But that isn't all. I don't even know if that does anything.

2. Go to the controllers "Left Thumb" tab and adjust the deadzone there too. I added some anti-dead zone but I don't know if it is needed. I got it down to practically zero dead zone, which may a bit too low. Adjust as you wish.

--------------------

Thank you to everyone who helped! Hopefully I can return the favor with this post.

If anyone wants help I will keep tabs on this thread.

Just wanted to add that this game has been a great addition to my racing games, it works beautifully! The racing wheel via x360ce works very well and bug-free.

There are a lot of tracks and cars, though they take time to unlock. Once you start unlocking they do seem to come pretty fast. It's a pretty tough game actually. I like it!
