Nintendo VS Unisystem restoration

This arcade machine landed in my garage sorta by surprise. I wasn't that serious about getting it but apparently the seller was serious about getting rid of it.

Here is the story:

It popped up on Craigslist about a month ago. As usual, the seller was asking WAY too much. So I politely made him a fair offer. He replied and "politely" declined.  However, I remember Yots and pbj using the "here is my offer...and if it doesn't sell, then I have cash in hand" technique. So I told him: "hey buddy...if it doesn't sell in your allotted time-frame...you have a buyer at $X." But of course, I never heard back.

Then fast forward almost a month, I get a call from the guy saying..."hey, I couldn't sell it...I'll take your offer". Needless to say, I was pretty surprised. What surprised me even more was that he wanted to deliver it. He needed it gone...and fast. He was moving and couldn't take it. So he delivers it to my house and we get it into my garage to make the deal. Well, now I know why he wants to deliver it. It's in much more rough shape than he advertised. BUT, now it's in MY garage, his girlfriend has the truck running, and I'm holding all the cards at this point. So my next offer was more fair. Anyway, I think he was lucky to get rid if it...and I was lucky to not have to work/pay much for it.

The following day I was really regretting my purchase. Not for what I paid, but because I wasn't really looking for a Super Mario Bros VS machine. Sure the game is fun and all but I've only played the game like a thousand times.

But then this week, I remembered Nazerine's upcoming UniVersus - Nintendo Vs. Flash Cart And this got me motivated to restore the cab.

The cab is gonna need a lot of love. Looks like someone puked down the left side. It also smells like someone used it as an ash tray.

Yep! It's really baffling what some people think games are worth.

Maybe I am crazy - but that doesn't look TOO bad to me.  No major chunks missing and no visible water damage - at least from the pictures you posted.  A little puke will clean up nicely with simply green - have fun with that

Yea, it's not TOO bad. But the pictures make it look better than reality. The edges have been gnawed on all around. And yes, no water damage. Just a lot of annoying things that will have to be addressed. The cab has some stories to tell I'm sure. The inside has a nice thick layer of dust and grime. Shockingly the manuals were still sitting inside! 

Oh and forget to mention that is does actually work. The monitor needs to be capped for sure but it does work!

lol. Yea, I actually did get over it quickly. I was a little more in the market for a Red Tent but those seem to be rare in my area. Plus I keep seeing posts of people having trouble sourcing parts for Red Tents.

So ultimately, the standard upright VS unit is going to be easier to work on because there are much more parts available for it.

By the way congrats on the score VJ.  It's in much better shape then my .vs was (but I got mine for free).
