rig2 - mariokart themed- network play
« on: April 02, 2014, 04:38:17 pm »
Been meaning to start a thread for months.
Starting to build a new rig, mariokart theme and will be used for LAN play
Link to photobucket, will keep it updates and hopefully the thread but am struggling to get time to finish, started this around november.

Original picture shows how it started,  built on a cnc machine off someone local.
Rx7 gen3 aftermarket seat, so comfy. Had to saw down amd bend runners to fit.
Wheel is a logitech driving force gt.  40" lcd toshiba screen.

Pc partly set up, separate steam account for pc, model2, gamecube and n64.. so far

Mariokart7 side art. Will use red, blue and white for the colour scheme.
Probably enclose the screen in plywood, vent holes at back and speakers inside.

This seems to just take ages.

You can see some of the pics of what the side art will be. Ive replaced all screws with panel pins on the sides as they are the only thing I can use in hardboard that will recess or be flat.
Hot glued hard board where it joins each other and sanded.

Had to extend the cp section out as it was too far away because the seat cannot go all the way forward (hits left support). Took pics of Test mounting wheel, seat and screen this time.

Need to finish wheel wooden base template and glue that. More screws in wood that wheel mounts too to secure.  - *done*

Sand, fill sand on right side.  *1 pass done*
Sand edges near cp
Want to make a small button box left and or right of wheel for credit, start/view buttons.
Paint
Side art
Fix pedals.
Cover inside
Mount screen
Build screen surround
Connect up
Finish pc set up
Finish pc

This is my first post at this site.. I usually hang around jammaplus. a lot of Good guys there.. But looking other places to see people that have many of the same interest that I do..  I wanted to let you know that if you really wanted to do the work.. I could show you how to make the REAL arcade game Mario Kart Arcade GP 1 and 2 work for it.. I mod game systems and the soft modded wii can run the game just fine..  The arcade game came out the same time Double Dash did for the GameCube.. Why is that good? Because they both use the same engine to run the game.. In terms of modding for the wii it is called a Wad.. You would place the wad into the modded wii that will allow the triforce engine to work.. Now since the games creation it's actually upgraded to quad force..  When you go into the games they have to be played with a game cube controller. Also there is no leaving the game without rebooting the system.. But does have a save point before doing so.. If it did HD, you'd have it made. It runs at whatever res the wii is set to.. And as a bonus, there is an arcade game F Zero AX that works with it as well..  Nice to see someone pushing forward on a build model. The easy way out would be a wii u and Mario kart 8 with HD already.. The wii u is a pretty nice system actually..  Far far better than the media and the people that don't have it give it credit for.  You can get triforce to run on a PC but need a pretty strong PC to get good frame rates.. I'm actually looking to add the real game to my collection. At this time I have 11 arcade games in my arcade. 5 of them sit down racers.. Good luck with your Mario Kart racer..  If you go to YouTube and look up user Shawn Powell and Mario kart arcade gp  you'll see some footage with it being played on my older big screen TV.. Plus some of my arcade collection a little while back..

So this is where i got to:

It was then banished to the garage.

I built the pc last year, Ivybridge proc, ie 3240,ssd,8gb, geforce 5850.
I then chopped up some wood, make shift some brackets to secure it in place.

This is going to mount under the seat, i need to put it in place after i wire up the power switch and led.

Last week, it was erected from the dusty garage, put on caster wheels and rolled in, then cleaned up

Over  the last few evenings :

Wired up the pc power switch, which is hidden resessed behind the button box .
Wired up the power led, for pc and placed at the top of the button box.

Blue covering for the inside, really hard to get to the sides and back of this cabinet.

Decided to use the wheel buttons for selection, will use the button box for special buttons instead, put mario and bowser as the bottom buttons instead:

1x transducer attached to cross member where the front seat mounts bolt to:

All model2 games configured for lan and tested. Couldn't get over rev or indy500 to work.

Configured a tap device and got double dash and kirby air ride configured and tested.

Configured dolphin on both rigs to use the controller "steering wheel" and set rumble to "constant" - i forgot about this setting.

Virtua racing and n64 next.

Quite a good today:

1.) Reconfigured new Wii wheel, since the "steering wheel" option configured for the gamecube, doesn't seem to play nicely. So set up a new Dolphin install and separate Sub wheel.

2.) Set up "NetPlay" for Nintendo Wii with Project 64, on both rigs and tested mario kart wii, built AHK scripts for client and server, so can be initiated straight from Hyperspin.Need to configure rest of the games.
Since WFC doesn't work this is about the best option for now, wiimffi seems a bit of hassle as I don't have 2 Wii's to grab the Nand's.

3.) Set up Project 64, but windows 7 would blue screen each time Project 64 launched a rom direct, didn't get that on my triple screen rig. After spending about an hour on it, it appears to be a bug in project 64. Note set "compatibility" mode on the project64.exe to windows XP SP3!!

4.) Set up 'Netplay' with Project 64, created AHK scripts for Client and server, so they can be executed straight from Hyperspin with no keyboard. Only done Mario Kart 64 so far, need to finish the rest

To Do:
Configure Net play for rest of game cube games
Configure Net play for rest of N64 games.
Configure Virtua Racing
Look in to Netplay for Dream cast.
