I just wanted to say thank you again for this.
Reggie10:
Thanks for your work on this. It's saved me a ton of aggravation and it's crazy that five years later this continues to be an important resource people use to wrangle the chaos that is a MAME romset.

I wanted to ask how you decided which version of a game to include. Was it influenced by parents vs. clones, so that people with a merged set don't break anything? Are there artistic or gameplay differences that might make one version superior to another? Did you try to prioritize the U.S.? I ask because it seems the batch file has some U.S. versions of games but then international versions of others (ex. Japanese Double Dragon, European Dungeons and Dragons). Just curious. I'm thinking of converting my split set to unmerged and tweaking the batch file to prioritize U.S. versions, but will refrain from doing so if there were specific reasons you chose the versions you did.

Thanks again for all you've done for the community.
BadMouth:
IIRC, I went with the parent provided it was in english.
Usually the international was and didn't include the extra "winners don't use drugs" loading screen.

In general, the gameplay in Japanese versions are considered to be more fair while US versions were tweaked to force you to insert more quarters to progress, but I prioritized language.

I don't recall why the Japanese version Double Dragon was chosen.  There might be discussion of it in the beat em up thread, or it may have just been the parent.
.....or I don't have any real reason.
