« on: June 30, 2002, 01:39:46 pm »
Hello,

I am looking for a 19" Screen Size PC Monitor to use in a Mame Based MS Pacman Style Cocktail cabinet. Can anyone recommend one ?. And idealy one that can be bought in the UK.

Thanks,
Nick.

Personally I'd recommend the WellsGardner U3100, as long as you want a realistic arcade-look instead of the blockiness of PC-monitors. As it is an open-frame monitor, you additionally get a much better airflow in this position. It's not very suited for PC-games or typing your letters in Word though.

But it'd be better if someone else tells his opinion about this, too - I'm not neutral in this 'cause I've to sell one in Europe (Germany)  ;)

Anyway, if you wanna have a look at this thing look at my homepage under the monitor-sections. There are plenty of pictures about it.

Cheers
Carsten

Thanks for your replies.

How easy is to contect a WG arcade monitor to a computer ?. I was told that the refresh rates of Mame (particularli in Windows) can damage arcade monitors. do you know if this is correct ?

thanks,
Nick.

These monitors are designed for PCs, not to be confused with regular monitors.

They have a scan rate of 31.5khz meaning they support upto 720x480 at 60hz, possible to get 800x600 at 55hz

Simply plug and play as they use the standard DB15 VGA lead.

I hope that helps.
