SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 7870XT
« on: January 11, 2016, 11:20:35 am »
Hi,
I try to make this card work with latest crt emu drivers, but the setup doesn't detect my card as a compatible device  :-[
I've tried to install the driver manually (by selecting atiilhag.inf file then "AMD Radeon HD 7800 series"), but no way :(
Is this card compatible ?
Thanks,

Calamity

Probably not, if it wasn't released before summer 2012. But its pci id could be added to the inf and maybe it'll work (or not). You can't add it yourself, I need to add it because of the signature thing. Post its pci id. Anyway don't throw it away, it will be supported in the near future.

Thanks @Calamity,

I added these 2 lines and I can now install my card.
Code: [Select]
"%AMD6820.1%" = ati2mtag_R575B, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_679E
AMD6820.1  =  "AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series (CRT Emudriver - WDDM v1.20)"

The thing is it's strange with 640x480. When I select 640x480 60i, both 60i and 60p are selected.
And when I launch GM from Hyperspin in super resolution then exit to come back to Hyperspin, I can hear my JammaSD switching on / off the screen, as I was switching back to an unsuported resolution.
And again (as with my 6850 which had those two 640x480 60i and 60p) the screen looks blurry in interlaced 640x480 resolution.
I'm pretty sure there is something wrong with the new drivers and this interlaced blurriness (I tested 2 new cards... maybe I'm not lucky ;))

Good that it worked.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by having both 60i and 60p selected. Do you mean in Arcade OSD?

Just in case, remind with HD 5000+ you should enable EDID emulation. This will create a 640x480@30i mode, which will be read from the EDID. The other interlaced modes added by VMMaker will be listed as 60i etc. (not halved).

Regarding the "blurriness". I think now I know what you mean. Indeed both my HD 5450 and HD 6450 show some sort of filter when an interlaced mode is enabled. I believe this is actually a built-in feature, by design, at the driver level, rather than an issue. In my opinion, this makes much more bearable working on the desktop with interlaced modes than doing it with legacy cards, where the flicker is absolutely annoying. But of course you may dislike it... unfortunately I don't know if it can be turned off, but I honestly don't see it as a problem here. GM applies bilinear filtering by default on interlaced modes, for the same reason.

Yes, I was talking about ArcadeOSD.
And indeed, with EDID emulation, I know have 640 480 30i (and 640 480 60i) (before EDID emulation, I had 640 480 60i and 60p), thanks.
But I still hear this "CLACK" from screen. For example when launching a GM game (neogeo 2560x224) from hyperspin (640 480 60i), I hear this "CLACK" which I didn't get with my 4890 graphic card.
It looks like the resolution is temporary switching to an non 15k resolution...

It doesn't look too bad in your video...

Anyway, just to make this clear. Different cards use different mode setting routines. If you see different patterns on mode switching it doesn't mean it's outputting an out of range signal. Switching modes involves cutting the sync signals for an instant. Depending on the exact timing on how this is done, the monitor can react in a different way... if you see what I mean.

Thanks @Calimity for the clarifications.
I just wanted to be sure that I'm not breaking my monitor  ::)

EDIT: if you find a way to disable interlaced filter, please let me know
