NES/Famicom Multicarts

Still waiting on the NES clones to come down myself.  I've been thinking of getting a custom cart of the hacked zapper games that run on a lcd tv.  Seems like it'd be better if a few of us got a small run made of them but I question the morality of that.  I wish the guys who did the hack would do that.

Went to visit my uncle, he’s having a hell of a time with his Hyperkin Retron 2.  Turns out the connectors are shallow and you either have to really shove the carts in there, or take the pcbs out of the cases and shove them in yourself loose.

I do some googling and turns out hyperkin products are universally reviled.  So I’ll never buy one of those again, adios $40 and hours of my life.

Since he’s running a flat screen now, I looked into HDMI options.  I just spent $80 on a Retro-Bit Super Retro TRIO HD.  If this doesn’t work well, I’m grabbing another Retro Duo and reinforcing the pcbs before I turn it over to him.

For now, he’s playing his games with pristine edge connectors.

Will update after this $80 clone arrives.

How about shoving some game genies in there in the meantime.... just take the carts loose from them as they have better edge connectors.

pbj:
I’m considering that, we’ll see how the hdmi system does first.

pbj:
The HDMI system, thus far, has been very nice.  The composite NES picture is fairly comparable to my Top Loader, and the SNES picture looks like the Retro Duo.  HDMI looks fine on my 4k TV.  Blocky.

I have ordered a "218 in 1" for the Sega Genesis, primarily because it has Minnesota Fats / Side Pocket on it.  Feels a little silly to spend $18 on a multicart considering you can get an Everdrive clone for $25, but it has a nice menu and good selection of games.  There's another multicart out there with 100 Genesis games and 100 Sega Master System games that seemed interesting, but maybe another time.
