Could I have nuked my gameport?

I had a nice arcade controller that used a Gravis Game Pad Pro hack, one day I accidently stepped on the cord and kicked the joystick ripping the cord out of the board's socket. I plugged it back in, I figured the black wire should be connected to a pin that went to a wide trace, which is usually common. But I apparently plugged it in backwards, because about a day and a half after leaving it like that, I noticed the chip was extremely hot. (the board under it had an awful burn mark, too.) The joystick didn't work after plugging it in the right way, so I figure I must have killed the chip. Fortunately I had another GP pro, so I replaced the board on my joystick with that one.

Now whenever I plug it in, the computer freezes until I unplug it. If it's plugged in when I boot the computer, it won't get past the manufacturer logo. (before windows starts) I tried plugging in an XYZ brand game pad, which seems okay at first, but windows won't detect it. Eventually the comp freezes until I unplug it. Did I ruin my game port? (it's an onboard soundcard, by the way.)

i blew up my dreamcast about an year ago..just get a new sound card with game port. ;)

funny stuff when i first hacked a gamepad i soldered the points on the controller while it was connected to the ps2 and nothing happened. dumb luck eh
