G400Interlace util with 32MB card?
« on: April 09, 2002, 09:36:34 pm »
Hi folks,

Anyone get the g400interlace program running on their arcade monitor with a Matrox 32MB AGP card?

The display is quite good with no noticable flickering on the right side of the display.  But the left half of the display shows up as solid purple bars so the desktop is not visible.

Is there a particular way to load the program?  I simply load the executable in the system.ini file.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have a G400 MAX, what is this interlace program you're talking about? Does it give a pc monitor scanlines like an arcade monitor? Or does it just enable you to display on an arcade monitor?

It enables you to display windows on an arcade monitor.

I'm using a 16mb g400 with a wg-7000 series monitor, and get a stable picture in mame32.  Certain parts of the windows desktop flicker a little, but nothing too bad.

For some reason though, my computer locks up if try to run mame32 AFTER I've already run g400interlace.  So every time I have to boot up, start mame32 in split screen mode, then run g400interlace.

Did you run into this?  Also, could you post the line(s) in your system.ini which set up your monitor?

Hi,

The g400interlace works fine with my 32mb card (other then the flickering  :-/)
Here's how i set it up:
Unzip the file g400il.vxd into C:\windows\system
Then unzip the g400interlace.exe into C:\windows\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp
That way she'll start up automatically.  Then I just put a shortcut to all the emulators on the desktop, .  Maybe you already knew this.

When i first heard about the g400interlace, it was in the old BYOAC forum. The guy who posted about it said there was a specific matrox driver that you needed to use. (i've searched for that post and could't find it :'( )
All i know is that the newest driver from matrox doesn't work well with g400interlace.exe.  I'm using an older driver that at least lets me start programs (unlike the newest driver) but now I'm getting random lockups using AdvanceMenu ???, oh well.
Hope this helps

I , too, am running my cabinet with a Matrox G400, using the TV-out via s-video.
I tried running the thing in DOS, but the resolutions supported by this card via the TV out in DOS mode are way too limited in my opinion.  Even after running the MAtrox VESA utilities I found on the NET, I still could not get many resolutions to work in the TV out in DOS (all games show up in little box in center of screen, no stretch,etc.).  I could get them to look great on the PC monitor, but not so good on the TV.
It is MUCH better in windows, and I have since switched over.
Since it doesn't sound like you're going to be using the dual head tv out feature in DOS, this may not be an issue for you.

So this might just be a general heads up about the Matrox G400 tv out capabilities.  They are Great is Win, but limited in Dos.

There's an EASY way to get things to work for guys with a G400.  You can plug the arcade monitor in output #2 of the video card, set TV-OUT to ON, CLONE, and click on advanced and select type:SCART-RGB.  I know the windows says only for europe but it works fine with NTSC.  This gives you a 15Khz RGB output of Windows up to 1024 X 768.  You then just run the windows version of MAME.  The pinout of the #2 output to get this to work is:

1 - RED
2 - GREEN
3 - BLUE
4 - Composite sync
5 - Ground.
12 - connect to pin 15 - This lets the G400 know that there is a TV-OUT cable attached

I wish I could have known this 2 years ago...  I used to run the system in DOS with ARCADEOS.  Now I run Windows, MAME AND Daphne on my arcade monitor.. WOOHOO!!!  Cliff hanger brings back a lot of memories!

BTW all the above was found in the Matrox Tech support forums..  There's a wealth of info there...

Ambrocade,

I'm using the same driver and bios as you, and Windows displays fine on my monitor...the only problem I have is that some programs hang when I try to start them (I remember someone here had the same problem.. but I cant find that post to see if they had a solution.. I still think the driver was different then the 6.51).

Ambrocade,

yeah, she'll flicker on ya...I've found if you turn the contrast and brightness down....it's tolerable.
I'm just wondering if  Mikeman's way flickers less??...I don't have the TV-out on my G400, but I think I would buy one with...if it worked better..
that's cool that you got it working though....
