Megatouch evo base removal

I am currently building a stand that can with stand the weight of my megatouch evo. This thing is going to take up more room than I wanted. So i was wondering is there a way I could remove the heavy base from my megatouch and maybe replace it with a piece of plywood or something so that I can put the megatouch on a floating shelf without it tearing down my wall. Also will removing the base stop any of its functionality such as the bill acceptor.

The metal base will effect the joystick if its an Ion evo. Other then that , NO the bottom base should not effect the bill acceptor.
