He was very, very kind to one of my family members many years ago and they held him in high esteem ever since.

We will be imitating his Gomer Pyle voice for years to come.

We ALMOST lost Kevin Smith to a heart attack on the 26th.  He didn't die but the type of heart attack he had has been dubbed the 'widow maker'.

Yeah, I got $5 on him over hyping that.  Nobody survives a 100% blockage.  And he took the opportunity to plug a reboot that nobody wants.

I'm sure he'll continue to make youtube videos of himself smoking pot and rambling about comic books.  Makes me sorry for his wife and child.

I'm very curious to see if his family allows his body to be thoroughly autopsied.  He was an enigma to ALS researchers, to the point where I heard one announce before a Q&A, "don't ask us about Stephen Hawking, we have no idea how he's still alive."  I've wondered for many years how much brain material was actually functional....

see, that's the thing. ALS only affects specialized motor neurons... all the rest of the brain's neurons aren't affected... you basically become trapped in your own body unable to move.

My father passed away at the hands of ALS a couple years ago at the age of 70. It's a ruthless disease that leaves you trapped in your own immovable body. It's nothing short of pure torture.

It was heartbreaking for our family to see my father deteriorate over the course of a couple years. But my Dad gave it hell. And he never once....not even once...complained or felt sorry for himself. It was truly inspiring to see how admirably he fought the disease.

Nothing in life is worth complaining about after seeing someone go though that fight.

I hope that ALS medical research can make a breakthrough soon for future generations.

This one bothered me.  Hawking was a childhood hero of mine.  Also anyone who's been on Star Trek TNG and the Simpsons (when it was still good) is and automatic bad-ass.
