I wouldn't say it's a design flaw per se...they just underestimated how retarded people can be and still manage to get a driver's license. |
Howard_Casto:
When the design of a shifter isn't "you move to position x and it shifts to gear x" then it's a design flaw. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. |

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. --- End quote --- but it does. unless you are trying to do something you shouldn't, then no, it doesn't. (for obvious reasons.) the aforementioned toggle shifter that was used on some of the 2012 to 2014 300's is an exception. it was only used with one particular transmission/engine combo (not on all models) since 2015 model year they have been changed to the rotary style knob. I haven't used that specific shift system before, but i'm pretty sure if you are stopped and want to put it in park, you could just hold the leaver up for a few seconds and it would default to park. while yes it's not a kerchunk okay we are here in this gear and have a positive stop system to ensure we are in park or drive or whatever kind of system, the onus is still on the operator to ensure their car is secure before leaving it. Much the same way I wouldn't place a running lawnmower on a hill and walk away. Idiot proof something, and the world builds a better idiot. By all this idiot proof logic I suppose a column shifter that doesn't have a big spring attached to the dashboard to pull the leaver back to park if you take your hand off it... has a design flaw because it can be left in gear. I suppose a door that doesn't have a pulley system attached to it to pull the door closed when you sit in the seat has a design flaw, since you could leave the door open and fall out. I mean how far do you go to make something safe enough where the most lazy and inept person on the planet couldn't possibly kill themselves with this. Do you want to get out of your car and go... or do you want to do a 47 step vehicle movement interlock procedure so that the car knows damn well you are good and ready to get out? The point i'm trying to get at is, Anton put his car in X when it should have been in Y... or thought he put it in X when he actually didn't. This isn't the vehicles fault. it doesn't matter what car on the planet you drive manual, automatic, leaver, shifter, or knob. car, truck, motorcycle or bulldozer.. if you leave it in drive, neutral, or reverse and you get out... it's probably going to run you over. :dunno I don't feel this is the fault of the vehicle manufacturer. Yes, An underestimation of how lazy, retarded, and inept people can be, showed a situation could occur where this could happen... but it was identified and a fix was put in place to prevent exactly this scenario. Now, if Anton had taken his vehicle in to have the fix applied...he'd still be alive, regardless of accidentally leaving the vehicle in gear/being lazy/being stupid. :soapbox: |

Why are you so determined to defend this poor, poor corporation? :dunno |
