Malenko's 3rd NeoGeo restore
(1/7) > >>
Malenko:
I plan to keep this one, forever, right next to my MKII in my rape dungeon.

This is how I got it:

yes, it came with a 161 in 1 cart. First thing I did was remove the 2 slot marquee and put in my bust a move marquee that Ive had for about a decade.

Malenko:
Tried to remove the paint and save the side art:

but I couldnt save it, it was too tore up, so I removed it.

So here is my favorite part. The corner was broken off. Previous owner put some bondo on it, held it in place with the tmolding, drove 2 nails through the molding to hold it in place, then covered it with more bondo. When I pulled the tmolding (and the nails) the corner just fell off. Good times.

So fixed that and the standard, patch/sand a bunch, prime/sand a bunch, patch/sand again, then prime/again:

Malenko:
The other side I skipped the paint removal and just removed the vinyl with a heat gun and putty knife. Took significantly less time, and exposed me to far fewer chemicals.

patch,sand,prime  times infinity
Malenko:
front before, strip the vinyl, patch the holes, patch and prime a ton, you get the idea.

One last once over with the sander and final primer coat:

Malenko:
I have a few more coats of red to put on, but this is how she stands right now:

I have the tmolding ordered, and I contacted stpcore about the artwork (side art, extra MVS label for the mobo, new headphone vinyl, etc) . I am probably going to keep the original CPO, its in surprisingly good shape.  I also have a 2 slot motherboard to replace the 1 slot that came with this cabinet and I have a replacement powersupply that already got delivered.  The old one sounded like a chopper from nam.
