Daytona USA 2 Cab Conversion
« on: November 10, 2015, 12:42:41 pm »
Hi there , thought I would share the progress on my latest purchase, which was a empty Daytona usa 2 cab.

so far ive installed:

32 inch monitor
I-pac
Pac drive led controller
Logitech wheel pcb
L2M2 Force feedback pcb
5.1 sound System
home made VR panel
sega gears 3 switch input to 4 outputs

running from a pc running Hyperspin with the following so far:

Model 2 emulator
Model 3 emulator
Triforce Mario kart gp2
Grid Auto sport
Out run 2 sp  pc version , modified by howard

just after I got it home:

then built up:

VR panel:

rear wiring:

screen bezel fitted , just needs painting on the inside..

seat covered , but not happy with the finish really, will see in the future but will do for now I suppose...

and ive started to build a marquee , inspired by Bods home made outrun 2 marquee...it wont be any where near as good as bods , but ive a start haha...

got some sanding done and attached the sides of the topper. This is how it looks now...

im still trying to figure out where to put the front left and right speakers..i could build them into the underneath of the top of the screen bezel or put them in the marquee...

Ok, so no problems running the M2 or supermodel emulators?  I'm having a hard time with demul (naomi/atomiswave) with my i5 650

nice!

I guess you use a model 2 dash board (daytona/ sega rally ) for the use of L2M2?

Why don't you post in the driving section ?

Looks sweet so far.

Why don't you post in the driving section ?

Projects belong in the Project Announcements subforum so the uninitiated who don't peruse the driving cab subforum can see them.
This was part of the discussion before creating the driving cab subforum.

I haven't bothered moving the ones posted in the driving cab subforum because I figured it could use the extra content for now.
That might change in the future.

The original idea was for the build thread to be here, and then have a single pic and link in the Driving Cab projects sticky.

Have you thought about trying to squeeze the speakers in elsewhere?  The model 2 cabs had the speakers firing into a pair of horn shaped boxes that ended in a narrow slot on each side of the monitor.  You might be able to pull off something similar above or below the flatscreen.

cheers  :)

im thinking of putting the speakers in the screen bezel, in the cavity between the top of the screen and the top part of the bezel. ill take the speakers out of their orinigal housing and mount them at the top of the bezel.

What are you planning on doing for that?
I should have some tracings I did of originals along with a few mock-ups in various states of completion.
They'd just be in .png format.  (they are in paint.net files currently)
Not sure how helpful they would be, but it's a useable outline anyway.
I could post them if you're interested.

If you're just going to go with a new old stock sticker, then I guess they wouldn't be of any use.

well after a couple of teething problems with the monitor , I can see light at the end of the tunnel....

ive fitted my old bezel which has a nasty crack in it at the top, due to the missus treading on it when I left it in the hall way....I think ive got 1 sorted from Vamino...just need to pick it up....

The transformer is causing a wobbly picture so need to re-locate it....I hope that's all it is.....any way a few pics from today...

Damn is that well done!  :notworthy: Wish I had the space for dedicated cab like these!

My only nitpick (due to my "ocd" with art and colors) is the yellow of your Vr buttons sticker... It just clash. But I know it's really hard to match colors.  Very impressive work!

Decided to attempt the seat back repair.....

there was a chunk missing out of the top left corner , and once i removed the black paint the other side had a few cracks aswell......

so ive used some epoxy putty on both sides to cover the missing broken piece and try to give the other corner some strength and prevent it from breaking off or creating more cracks.....next is to prime the area and paint it......im only going to paint the corners as i dont want the repair to stand out too much...or else it would need the complete seat back re-painting....

ok managed to fix the broken seat back at the top on both sides, but spraying it fluorscent yellow was just a pain, it stood out a mile, so decided to spray the top piece black to where the top sega sticker would be going:

bumping this hoping you can re-upload the pictures. I started to build a sit down cab but Im thinking about just converting my Daytona USA2 instead.

I'd like to see what you did so I can maybe do the same and just make new harnessed and the like to keep it reversible.
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.
