Must speakers be shielded?

Pipercub:
I use standard stereo amplified PC speakers  in two machines behind the marquee and they are pleanty far from the monitor and present no problem. When you think about it, it is even farther than they are when you set them on the desk next to the monitor. On another machine I use the amplifier board to drive the stock 6x9 in the cab.

My speakers are 100W unshielded car speakers in the panel below the marquee, and the monitor is an open-frame W-G D9100.  I've had no problems.
