Portable raspberry pi
« on: September 30, 2015, 01:07:49 pm »
I've got a raspberry pi 2 collecting dust, figure I'd turn it into a portable gaming device.  Really was thinking how I could make it into one like the nvidia shield portable so it's always ready to just pick up.   I've got an old wired xbox controller, basically want to mount a display with a raspberry behind it.   Probably will be hard to make it look good, but better than not used I guess.

Basically want this I think.  Do you think it would be annoying to play on?

Anyone ever see clamps like that, I don't have access to a 3d printer

it seems to me that it would feel heavy and uncomfortable to use for extended periods.

It's possible, but thought a raspberry pi and a small display wouldn't add too much weight.
I've got an external battery, which would be the heaviest part, could keep that wired and put it down somewhere if weight was a factor.

I think if you're going to go portable you should look at a smaller screen. I'm working on one myself but i'm not sure what screen to use. The adafruit 2.8 seems like it would be super small but the 3.5 and bigger ones have a slower refresh rate and say they are not good for gaming. I am planning to design my own case and 3D print it. (i'm a CAD guy by trade) I'm just not sure what screen to get or if there is an alternative to adafruit that can do smooth gaming in a 4 or 5 inch screen.
