Yeah, I can't say I blame him. He felt like his comments tended towards the negative, given that he was a straight shooter and he wanted to cut that out.

Still, I'll miss his honest feedback, especially when things get circle jerky.

I don't even look at the hardware end of the hobby anymore. All projects fall into two categories. Cabs so well done with so much money thrown at them it makes me feel bad about myself or cabs that are so bad or poorly designed that the creators should be ashamed to let them see the light of day. Yeah.... I really don't want this to turn into a "Why I don't like BYOAC anymore" thread, but there was a lot of truth in that "New Arcade Console" thread...

I think unless we are talking restoration or recreation, the whole "mame cab" thing doesn't appeal to me anymore. I don't mean that having a mame cabinet doesn't appeal to me, I just mean the design aspect. At this point I just pick a design that'll work well for what I want it to do, build it really well and put a nice coat of paint on it. Sideart and blinky buttons and what-not.... eh... I just want to play games.

That isn't to say I can't appreciate a really well done cab, it's just the wisdom of being around here since the beginning has taught me that spending 500 dollars on sideart isn't the best idea considering in a few years the technology will radically change and you might have to scrap the whole thing anyway. I mean the whole switch from 4:3 to 16:9 monitors really threw me off. I always thought pc monitors would be 4:3 because for computing it makes more sense.... but I guess cost won. Also this trend to put Japanese controls on everything... I'm still resisting that one, but I think eventually we may not have a choice.

I hear you. This and the insistence on using 32"+ monitors that result in superwide cabinets. I'm not saying anyone is WRONG in doing so, per se, but it just doesn't appeal to me.
