The first thing I remember seeing him in was an independent movie called "The Station Agent".
He was good in it. I liked the movie, but it may have been just because it was a break from the usual mass market crap movies.
He was also good on the TV show Nip Tuck.
EDIT: after watching the trailer, the station agent was far from an independent film

Elf, Nip/Tuck TV show (awesome show but not because of him), The second Narnia movie, X-Men: Days of Future Past
Not a ton of roles for a 1/2 a man , but his movie career is going better than mine.
