  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Got MAME all setup for Maximus.

Now trying to setup Atari Emus...shows in Maximus MESS

Sure I can get Stella to work for 2600
But problem I have is setting up Mess - which now says use MAME interface according to Mess page.

Can someone briefly explain - I know I need to possibly download a BIOS for each console ex: 7800

Do I put MAME or MESS in a directory - then in it have a ROMS folder and set MAXIMUS to that Executable and then where do I put the BIOS?

Just confused.

I typed all this up before I realized you're likely using something newer than me.  I'm using MAME v0.161 (MAME & MESS are still separate in this version)... I'll post it anyway in case it helps somehow.

I ended up making multiple copies of mess for each console - I can't remember what problem I ran in to but my initial attempt was to create one folder:  D:\Arcade\Atari with multiple ROM folders:  \Atarti\Rom\2600, \Atarti\Rom\5200, \Atarti\Rom\7800...  for some reason I couldn't make that work correctly.

MESS is small enough that having multiple copies doesn't cause a problem for me, so I set it up like this:
D:\Arcade\Atari2600
D:\Arcade\Atari5200
D:\Arcade\Atari7800

All MESS files/folders are in each location with ROMS for individual systems in their own folder (D:\Arcade\Atari2600\Rom, D:\Arcade\Atari5200\Rom, etc).
From there, I pointed Maximus Arcade to Mess in each folder for each system setup.

My command line options are:
a2600 -cart %file -skip_gameinfo -nowindow

I do not have BIOS files for any of the Atari systems I have running.

Thanks for the HELP - I got it...really appreciate your help...got it to work with MAME as same way as you mentioned with MESS.

Thanks,
Rich

Hello rball5, hope you're still online. Thank you for the instruction on using Mess, however, it seems that you can no longer download it. Looks like it is wrapped up in MAME0179 and Mess is not an option for MA configuration.

My question is, do you use MAME emulator as the configuration in Max Arcade? Then use MAME to launch the games?

Sorry if I sound a little confused, but I am brand new to the emulator game.

Regards, CB
