How do you play Lunar Lander on a Asteroids CP?  I'm not seeing it.

What's there to see? Push thrust to thrust, hold it down to increase thrust. Let go to reduce it. Left/right to rotate ship. Easy.

Btw, LL is kind of a throw-in. The Multi-Asteroids is what is desirable.

Had no idea such a thing existed.  Now I need to get one for my cabaret!  I love LL.

The LL thruster is an analog controller.  There must be some changes in software to make that work.

My guess is that it sill reads it as analog. Just interprets it in only 2 positions:

1. off
2. or max analog
If you can read this, it means Photobucket's money grab ruined my signature photos.

Heh, that's still a change to software.  The original thruster is a potentiometer.  So they'd have to hard code the 'on' to some specific value.  That would make the game really hard to play given how the thrust value is the most important control you have.  It might be the only way to do it with one button but it is a substantial change.

It's in his FAQ.  There are various modes that you choose in settings to make it work.

Hold button to increase, release to decrease.
Hold to increase, release to decrease, fire to cut.
Hold button to increase, release to decrease, fire to hold.

There's a bunch of them.

Ah, so there is no 'off'.  There is only 'increase' and 'decrease'.  That is a bit more complicated but better than a static value.

An underutilized feature of MAME is the ability to choose the speed of the "ramp up" (digital speed under analog options) and "return to center" (digital center) when substituting digital pushbuttons and joysticks for analog controls.
By setting those, you can maintain an analog range by tapping the button or direction at a particular speed.
On games like Pole Position you could reduce digital speed until the tires no longer squeal when punching the gas.
I never use it because I have analog controls for most of the games I want to play.

Someday I'd still like to see how playable I can make some of these games with a standard microswitch joystick.

Not at all.  Several of the options include a "cut-off" option.

I agree with this, LL aint LL without that analog control. BUT we're talking about an Asteroids multi-kit here, some compromises have to be taken.  Having LL on it is only a bonus. Gravitar would have made more sense for that kit.

Im with Opt , its nice to have the game there that you can play with compromise. I mean its a multi asteroids kit yots got for free.  I think the thruster "work around" is on par with using the start button as an action button on the space invaders clone and the pengo game on mike doyle's 96 in 1 Pac kit. Not authentic but nice to have.

Honestly, LL is kind of a throw-in on this kit. I think you can connect a thruster to it, but it's not 100% supported.
