My arcade project
« on: July 29, 2015, 01:07:43 am »
I've wanted my own arcade machine since I was a kid.  Does anyone remember the show Silver Spoons?!

Yes, I have a name for my baby but I'm not quite ready to share it yet.  As of now, I have 95% of the wood cut.  The jigsaw melted down before I could finish.  The CP is also almost cut.  All of my arcade parts have arrived and are just waiting on the wood!

My CP will have:

2 rotary joysticks (for Victory Road and Ikari Warriors)
8 buttons each player
3" Trackball
Spinner

I designed the cab to be modular so I can eventually build a couple of optional CPs for it.  I'd love to add light guns and flight sticks in the future.

I'll be running MAME, Daphne and NES (for Super Mario Bros).

Here's a mockup of it.  I'm hoping to be totally done in a couple of months.

I have more machines in my game room than Ricky Schroder did. That must mean I'm rich!!!

You don't need 8 buttons for each player running those emulators. 6 will do just fine.

Haha!  That, or times have changed.  Honestly I'm lucky to be getting just one cab (although to be fair it has every game ever invented on it).  My wife is already asking me where she thinks I'm going to put this thing.   :D

Good to know.  I modeled my CP after the Tankstick, since I was originally going to get that before deciding to build my own.

He's not kidding.  His game room kicks more ass than a ninja on meth.

One caveat, if you're really into fighting games like Street Fighter IV or plan on playing Steam games 8 buttons can be nice. With 8 you can map a separate Start and Back button like an Xbox Controller would have or match the button mapping of a fightstick.
