| Spotted this in a redemption machine |

Went to a local movie theater a few weeks ago and took some snapshots of the cabinets there. Nothing to write home about. A few unique machines squirreled away in the corners (as it were). About 90% of in poor shape as is typical nowadays. Spotted this thing in a redemption machine though. On the surface of it, it looks like an Android wrapped in a fake PSP case. None of the apps (as it were) appear in any Google search and I'm pretty sure that at least the cheesiest Android device gets "Settings" spelled right. None of the icons match the name (Lego? Scary Dreams? WTF?). USB is mentioned twice as a feature too. ::) There are ZERO identifiers on this package. I looked. It looks a lot like those ---smurfy--- knock offs I can find at the flea market. Google searches turn up nothing, especially with no identifying marks on the package. Curiosity has me here, any ideas what this thing is? |

Yeah I haven't ran across that particular model but it's a "mp5 player". Why not mp4? Because China likes to go one step beyond. ;) As you suspected it's an android machine in a psp shell which means it's really old (most look like vitas or newer consoles at this point). Typically they have a bunch of emulators and roms pre-loaded on them. They aren't great, but aren't nearly as terrible as the packaging makes you think... it's just bad packaging. Check out dx.com or similar sites and you can probably find that particular model with enough digging. |

bought some of those in the past for our stacker redemption machines, price point is about 30 bucks each. price break at quantities. all kinds of shenzhen companies make them. all equally ---smurfy---. they are as cheap as you think... lousy batteries, cheap LCD's. tinny speaker. 1 or 2gb memory. (expandable memory via micro SD card.) they are somewhat capable at playing nes/sms/genesis/SNES games with a few dropped frames here and there. the ones we had output composite and audio so you could hook them up to a TV.... but that's about it. tended to crash after a while then no longer power up.. good times. |
