Whats changed in the last few years? --- End quote --- Oh, I think the answer to that is rather obvious. The audience interested in this hobby primarily consists of people born in a very defined range, that I'd peg as 1970-1990 with a smattering of exceptions on either end of that. There's nobody new beating down the gates and everyone here has already done everything. JAMMA beater into a MAME cab? Found your holy grail? Restored a dedicated machine? Flirted with pinball? Bartops? Pedestals? We've all done it already. Now you can just throw money at someone to CNC them for you, so you don't even need a saw anymore. Have been kind of surprised that the driving and dance machines never really got big around here, but console and PC gaming were so far along that the home versions can easily be superior for anyone interested. Maybe with Golden Tee finally emulated we'll see some more action there, and I think it's a matter of time before all of us mess around with an active marquee. --- End quote --- Interesting question, Jennifer, and I don't disagree with your alter ego. I think a lot of builders either find a new hobby they want to get involved in and move on, or more likely, they go from MAME cabs to dedicated cabs and have this (in my opinion) misguided sense that MAME cabs are for filthy infidels and so they stop coming here. Also, based on the past year or so, I think some guys getting in today don't love classic games as much as they simply want the ability to play old games and don't really care about authenticity. Not saying they're wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's why we're seeing a lot of 4P Widescreen cabs today. |

Heck I'd even be Dazzler just to get quarters into that machine. I remember those days fonder than most, but I still would never let that govern build design. |

I dont like getting lumped in with PBJ! The best most recent thread you posted as an example of me....stirring, was where X2 was the stirrer and I was cordial and non engaging from 5 months ago. The closest thing to an attack on X2 was TacticalChaos' hard drivin FAQ. Ive been on my bestest behavior pretty much all year. The one thread where I was purposely being an ---uvula--- was this one : http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,145734.0.html and in that thread I was actually quite helpful to everyone except fr_303 and a moderator posted in the thread without any hubbub about it. Any fart, enough about me, this thread needs other peoples naff not mine. Ive accepted that Scott is going to be a moderator, and Ive accepted that he'll most likely continue to not care about improving, but I tried to do something about it and it didn't come to pass. I'm over it. |

I find myself not wanting to build another cab as the days go on. I stay because I have found a good group of people that not only talk about arcade machines but also take the time to listen and ---That which is odiferous and causeth plants to grow--- within the forum about a wide variety of issues. If anyone feels they are being censored unjustly then I suggest they find another place to be. The internet is a large place. It's like getting mad when someone asks you not to swear in their house. You may find it commonplace to swear within your own house but some people may not share the same idea. |
