I've always been under the mentality that if your wife really loves you then she should be happy about your hobbies and even if she doesn't like them personally she should respect them. So if you've got a wife that you have to convince to let you do something you enjoy, you married the wrong woman and a divorce is in your future. |

Are we merging the chuff and anti-chuff threads? I think the summer of chuff has ended. :'( |

It's 102 outside. Best piece of marriage advice I can give is to be sure and tell them "if you get up to a size 8, I'm divorcing you" early and often. |

So if you've got a wife that you have to convince to let you do something you enjoy, you married the wrong woman and a divorce is in your future. --- End quote --- Being happy for you and supporting what you do is all good.. as long as it doesn't cut into your "mutual money". To most women, "mutual" means "all". If you are very well off, this is usually not an issue, particularly if you are the primary breadwinner. If it even comes close to approaching where you equally pull your weight and she either wants that money saved or spent on something "better", then the whole "happy wife, happy life" thing comes into play in a major way. If you agreed ahead of time on an amount of money you could each waste on hobbies, or have an excess that makes it irrelevant, or you make all the money and have a pre-nup, or you lied about how much it cost, or you have a wife who doesn't believe she "dated down" and hence puts YOU on a pedestal, then spending money on hobbies that women typically despise is just fine. It's all stereotype, but that's the funny thing about stereotypes - they are based on reality in general. There aren't a million jokes about miserable married men, ball and chain, marriage sex, etc. because people are inventing stuff that could be funny in that oddball situation, those jokes exist because 99.9999% of married men know EXACTLY what they are talking about and can laugh because they reflect their miserable lives. On that high note, I started seeing some posts in facebook about kids going back to school, summer being over, etc. WTF. I feel for kids who get 6 weeks off before school starts again. Summer's over when the snow starts to fly, which for Montana should be in about 3 weeks, lol. In the meantime, it's still 100 degrees every day here, and hence summer is NOT over. It will get down to about 98 degrees in 3 weeks, then the next morning it will be 10 degrees and snowing. If we are really lucky we will get 4 or 5 hours of Fall where the temperature is nice enough to sit outside and actually enjoy being outdoors before the cold comes in and we laugh about "global warming" for about six months. I still have projects planned, although with the decision to blow all my money on vacations I probably won't get around to any of them again this year. But the shop is heated, I am acclimated to living 99% of my life indoors anyway, and lately I have been madly working away on my second novel, so the chuff won't end anytime soon here. If it's over for you, cheers, I hope it was good. ;D |
