How much $$$ are we talking here? My wife has a car that needs a paint job, and I don't really feel like going around getting estimates at this point because I'm in no position to do so. Online estimates range from $3000 to $15000 but I could have made an estimate like that myself. The clear coat is flaking quite a bit, and we were thinking of doing either a flat black with gloss black flames, or gloss black with really dark purple flames. Although personally I love the white on front fading out to colour as it is now. It's just a bit too much.

As little as humanly possible.  I'm getting it painted the same factory color, so that helps a lot with the price, but it also means that inside the doors and all the jazz I have to paint myself.  There isn't a whole lot of surface area in those places though, so rattle cans of color match do just fine.  I don't have a choice really... my paint isn't fading or just starting to look bad, it's virtually non-existent.

In terms of what you were wanting to do, the same base color is always cheapest.  If you change it though flat black is a lot cheaper than gloss black which is literally the hardest, most expensive color you can get if you want a perfect finish.

Leave the hearse as is.

Earl Scheib is fine if you can do basic prep.

If you need your time machine painted then sure, they are great.  Otherwise they closed in 2010.  ;)

I remember that guy.  He sounded like he had just finished gargling a bowl of thumbtacks.
