I got a converted Stargate for cheap and I am bring it back. The wiring is fine, but I think the PSU is toast. Bought the marquee, bezel, and now I'm looking at the control panel. How often do these wooden CPs come up in auction? I am also looking at converting it into an Anniversary Edition, and the artwork will only cover the top of the CP, the exterior bucket of the CP needs stripping as does the sides of the cab. I'm having no luck sourcing a CRT so a LCD is going in there temporary. No boards, so I am not sure if it will be cheaper just to mame it.
Lots to do.
Pictures to follow. Honest!!
Ok after looking at the wiring harness (and I am glad I did, nearly bought a Jpac off a friend of mine) it has been really cut up. The original harness it might be, but unless I get another loom, I will use what I have for the Kades.
I replaced the Marquee light (do these sell on ebay?) with a LED bar that should save on the electricity and the environment as it is good for 12 years. After trying to clean the paint off the sides of the cab (good job I stopped) the existing paint came up pretty good. I removed the WWF side art as it was just on by adhesive.
I'm not a fan of the stargate stenciled look so I will just buy some decals for the sides and call it a day. The T-Molding needs replacing, joys and buttons work but they are a mix of microswitch and Seimitsu, and to be honest even if it is a cramped control panel, I would want leafs in there. I'm waiting on the artwork to be quoted and finalized, but I have a ton of work before I can apply it.
The Coin Mech lights are not working, so I will have to either install a PC PSU or get another Arcade PSU. I tested the installed PSU and I cannot get any voltages out of it. I wonder if there are some fuses inside the unit that can be replaced. The monitor transformer was going into the trash, but I thought it better to keep it in there for posterity.
It is just filthy in there. 30 years of yuck in there, but it is cleaning up slowly.
